• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FSXA Just a Runway light

Hello all,

I'm searching for a little object wich be placed with A.D.E for an FSX add-on scene. I want to find a lonely runway light, white (or a bit yellow), with the good affect attached on it wich make the light be more bright when you are far from it, and less bright when you are close.

I'll place this light on an aircraft carrier scene wich havn't runway lights...

I'm not searching for an full modelized runway lamp with a lot of details, i'm searching for the light itself, with the "runway light" properties and usable in A.D.E.

Best regards,

Nex

Hey my friend calm down, :D, sometimes the question left unanswered even though you can believe that :p, I think such thing not exist ,you want to place the lights like an object for that you must make a dummy object with gmax and attach a light (effect) to them, yes I thought that should be more easy too. must be tutorial about making lights and placing them. fi someone know of another process could be great.
What I said before was that we have to do a box in gmax, (a little box) make them transparent, and then attach lights or effect to the box and export as a .mdl file, in this way you can place this light like an object everywhere you want, either isn`t so complicated

Hi dude, i'm calm...

I cant create this object myself that's why i'm calling for help in this comunity...

But you're right, i need a .mdl of a little transparent object with the effect above...

Any ideas?

What I do, Gmax, make a little box, make the box editable mesh, go to the attach tool, and choose an effect or light, once attached or before all this, you assign a material to the box and set transparency to "0", you have your little box with the material applied and the effect attached, and then, export as a mdl.
Once I get the mdl load the box with the effect in Modelconvertex, and there go to material editor and there I click in "set default trasparent" then you will see the box is trasparent if it's no was before, and in modelconvertex you can set when the light could be active, or the period of time they work in " effect editor", or attach another effect right there , in modelconvertex, this is my own process. and export as mdl of course,
I set default transparent in modelconvertex because I have problem to make transparent the box in gmax, and so I am sure it's transparent because you can see it in Mcx. and add it lo a library object, good luck.
Maybe you have to edit the effect too, because the light not fit with what you want for the scenery, good luck,

Thanks for your reply man.

Do you know the name of the effect used to display a runway light? Or a way to make the light more bright when you're close, and less when you're far?

Look for Arno's fx editor , and some tutorial that could help, here I'm of little help. It's a little complicated matter.

Nexus....

Check out the effects forum... there might be some info there on how to set distance parameters for effects... as for day night operation, I believe that that can be set in attaching the effect twice in gmax, and adding time of day parameters to each effect set within gmax... so you set one for day=no, night yes, and the other for dawn=yes, dusk=yes... this is done in the effect attachment user parameters box...

if you search the gmax forum, you will find a step by step way to incorporate this i think... good luck!

Hello again,

First, happy Christmas for all !!

I have one more question. I placed a light effect with Airport Design Editor with the commands "night=1,day=0" and it works fine in free flight...

BUT NOT IN MULTIPLAYER ! sigh :confused::eek:

I don't understand anymore... the server have my scenery installed...

...why?..WHY??!
