• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX KNKL project

Here are some shots of my KNKL project. The items are all from downloaded scenery libraries or stock. I have made NOTHING for this airport myself.

This airport is located in Navarre, FL, USA. It will be the main airport of operation for Bluestream Air, Bluestream Air Cargo, and Bluestream Air Express. I have more hours in this than should be required for even a full commercial version of JFK or ATL....but, most of it is because I am such a picky ass when it comes to things being exactly where they should be. I have also restarted the project almost from scratch 2 times. Moved entire areas, etc..

So far, the Cargo and GA facilities are finished. The fire and security headquarters is done and the taxi signs are done. I hope. There are currently over 300 and I do know of a few more that will be places once I finish the PAX side of the airport. The private jet area and helicopter areas are about 85% done. Just need a few extra buildings and then some eye candy.

The pax side is going to be a nightmare thanks to my exacting standards. I verify every parking space with the largest plane that will use it, and then make sure it can get in and out without hitting other planes or buildings, and then make sure other planes of the largest size that will enter that area can get past the largest in every parking space without running into them. I do the same testing when it comes to placing the vehicle paths behind aircraft parking.

I wanted to have some custom built buildings and signage when this is released (version X1.0 (named because there is a fs9 version that is not even close to looking like this)) but don't have anyone with any time to design them for me. Hopefully, by version 2.0 of KNKL, all the buildings will be brand new custom built.

I hope you like the preview shots.

- Greg

Incredibly nice Greg.
I now understand why you would like to have some vehicle traffic on this airport (like that firetruck).

Thanks Roby! Yeah, I would love to have a few cruising around. Then, maybe in version 2. would be insane to have all the workers cars come and go each day on schedule...Different shifts. Semis pull in and back up to loading docks.

I am a sick sick person. LOL

To me, it's not just an airport...it's a life

I agree, very nice job. I like to call this type of modeling "kit bashing" (a term used in model railroading), as you pick and choose different scenery objects and create a whole new project from them.

I like how the airport looks busy and congested. How's she on frame rates?

Thanks! And I have been a model railroader since I was 9. One of my designs was even in Model Railroader back in the early 80's when a friend of my dads built it. I have always mixed and matched parts that way. And modified as the need arose.

As for frame rates...I can't be the judge because there is something on my design computer that destroys frame rates in fsx. I can get 120fps in Halo2, UT3, and all other computer killing games...but NOT FSX.

However, for comparison... At stock KCVG with high settings, 8% cars, 65% airline, 8% GA, I get a whopping 1-8 fps. I get the same at KNKL right now.

A few people have all my objects and the airport, so I will ask them to please test it out now. I test at full sliders always and design that way, but, many of the cool little features are set in the higher levels of course. I have no clue what I would get at less detail, because I never create/test that way.. LOL

KNKL? That used to be Holly Naval Outlying Field (actually NKL). Now 1J9 is in Navarre as far as I know... You'll find that most Navy Airports start with KN.

Jim.. Yup. I know everything you could ever want to know about the airfield. My partner in crime lives a mile from it...if that. NKL is one of the odd fields that went with the 3 letter only. That's why I took KNKL, because it doesn't exist in real life. In my world, NKL is now a true naval field....as I have moved it into the ocean. :)
