• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Landing light on Schiphol 1938

I'm searching for a way to add a light to this one. I use FSDS 3.5 and I use ModelConverter. It must generate an extensive light, a floodlight. It's for FS2004.

Thanks for any help!

It depends on whether you want the light to just be visible as a light or whether you want a light splash on the ground.

If for the light, I would make a version of the default airport beacon effect, but without the flashing light. Basically you create an object that lights up. You create several LOD’s, the one for close-up will be the same size as the lightbulb itself. Then as you move farther away, the light gets larger and larger, allowing it to be seen from farther away.

If instead, you mean a light splash on the ground, I would use the same approach as our typical ramp lights. One example is the ESDG ramp light library. Basically you use the default landing light effect to splash light on the ground.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom. I think I found a workaround that works for me. I use one of the ramp lights of Bill Leeming, reduce its size, put them for a part below ground, and pitch them 10 degrees. The lantern I made covers the ramplight and I get a nice floodlight.
