• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Lights in FS9

Hi there,

Maybe that I am too dumb. But I lost the orientation in this matter totally in the meantime. There is written so much about lights overall the forums that I don't know where and what the final solution for that actually might be found.

I want to light up my airport with the fs2004 gamepack. The lamps of course shall be lit only at daytime and I want to see the light on the ground. All what I have found is a discussion and a mixture of fs2002 and fs2004 comments.

So the question is simple (the answer maybe not): Is there a tutorial where I can see and learn how to do this with the fs2004 gamepack?

Any help is appreciated
Gianni

Hi Gianni,

No, I have never seen a tutorial about this. The MakeMDL SDK lists some information about creating lights with the gmax gamepack.

But for all the tweaking needed for sepcial effects, I haven't seen a decent tutorial yet. You will have to do it with the bits of code floating around forums like this.

The most realistic possibility to illuminate your airport is in my opinion to use effects. It's kind of a sissiphus-job, but it pays off. ;) Maybe you want to take a look at some pictures here where I experimented with fx-lights. I can send you some files if you want. :)

But I also think there's no tut about that.

@Horst

thank you for the pictures - they really look great. That is exactly the degree of quality that I want to achieve for my LOWS-project. Yesterday evening I was able to add an obstaclelight by attaching an effect. It is not yet satisfying because the light is only visible from a certain angle and in a certain distance but it at least shows up.

I would appreciate to receive some files from you. If you want I can give you my SKYPE addess to discusss some questions personally (and in german, which might be more efficient for me :) )

Greetings from Austria
Gianni
