• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Lights In Gmax For Fs2004

What should that tutorial be about? It is probably already reported in the tutorial forum here.

That about create lights and placing this at airport appron...
I'm trying creating light with some tutorial, but light not working... only light_nav is visible... but other lights types as light_taxi and light_land not working in my scenery ;( Before I'm just added IFIN1 NO_LIGHT, tod, 2, 4 and so on and has lights in my scenery...

It is correct that the LIGHT_LAND option no longer works in the Fs2004 gamepack, so you can not use them anymore. Effect files seem the best alternative.

Don't know if you're still watching this thread...

I'm behind everyone else since I use the FS2002 SDKs for FS9 but... I have successfully created lights for FS9 by using GMax to build the lights (LAND_LIGHT), FSRegen to create APIs and FSSC to place them.

My example:

Ken,
in FSDS landing_lights do produce the same effect and they work. but the problem is, that this works with FS2002 modelpack, while with FS2004 modelpack You need to use effects instead of landing lights. And this is major problem...

Best regards,

I absolutely agree that it's a problem. I sincerely wish that when FS9 was written that the scenery techniques were identical to the FS2002 ones but I guess in the pursuit of "perfection" some things must change even if it causes people like us frustration trying to adapt to new techniques.

I didn't realize that Albert's problem was FSDS-specific and I've never used FSDS so I'm totally unaware of it's capabilities or hinderances but I know most of this community uses it quite often and, at times, must devise work-arounds until better methods are created or discovered.

I am still quite new at this (1¾ yrs) and still use the FS2002 SDKs for FS2004... for now. I consider myself intelligent but most of the SDKs seem written for someone with a firm grasp on programming and that's where I get lost. Even the ASM-files confuse me since I don't understand them with the exception of a few lines here or there... As my skills improve I will learn how to work with effects successfully and not even think of FS2002 solutions to FS2004 problems...

Guys... the idea is that they are moving towards effects.

Also... I seem to remember that there is a way around this if you name the texture instead of the object..... now where is that damn note I took down...

Back soon with info.
