• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Living World 1.2 Question

I am playing around with Living World 1.2, have it working, and have a question:

If I read the manual correctly, the LivingWorld.cfg file is the only file that the program will work with. Yet, it can only hold 10 objects/animations. That would mean only 10 moving mdl's can be used at a time. (More would require multiple cfg's that are renamed to LivingWorld.cfg as needed.)

Is this correct or did I miss something? Only 10 objects seems pretty limiting. And it would prevent including moving objects with any scenery designs - no one would want to be renaming files for each scenery area they go to.

Thanks

After re-reading my post above, I think I need to apologize to Ron Haertel (author of Living World). A day later, it appeared to me to be a pretty snotty message.

That certainly was NOT my intent. Having uploaded several Scenery areas, I know there is nothing worse than to spend hours and hours working on a project, uploading it for free, and then have someone complain about it not being exactly what they want.

When I wrote it, I tried to sound like I was a dummy for not understanding the manual. Hopefully, that is the case. But if not, while Living World probably won't work for what I had in mind, it is still a great little program to play with, and so far, I have not seen anything else like it.

I am the author of the program and yes it is very limiting in 10 simobjects.

Lost my job last year and frankly since the microsoft FS being disbanded lost interest in FS.

The program was basicaly just the example enhanced a bit. I wanted to put a front end onto it to allow for changing things within FSX, but found all the hoops one had to go through to get a in process program work like the traffic program decided not to.

So with that saying - I did not get too much feedback on any requests to enhance the program, so figured it was not worth updating.

So if there are any requests just ask or if someone wants (the really bad) source code you are welcome to it. It's C++. Using visual studio 2005.

New Living World

Hi. RonH

Sorry to hear that you have lost your job, I can associate with that!
Hope you got something by now.

I can see that you have lost interest in FS and that is a pity, because I think you did an immaculate job with Living World 1.1. Did not work with 1.2 yet. I also think that your program meant a lot to many people, they just did not mention it to you.

Living in Africa is an experience and flying where you can spot animals is part of our lives. That’s what made your program so good.

I do not know anything about programming so taking source code from you will help me nothing. I started flying with FSX last year and still enjoying it very much. So sorry I’m a bit late to the enhancement story, but yes, if I read or understand correctly, you enjoyed writing the program. I believe that plenty of people are still playing the game, despite Microsoft’s announcement. There are still people that got to learn how to fly, or just enjoy the simulation or for any reason as Microsoft mention on the intros of FSX. They did plenty of work/enhancements over the past 25 years and I can not believe that a loveable simulation/game like this will just disappear.

Whilst the program is still being played there will always be someone that need something from it. Be a sport and write v1.3 playable with sp1, sp2 and acceleration and by the way in Southern Africa are much more than ten places where you need to see different animals.
