• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Looking for advice/help - ai gliders in flight

Hi folks and congratulations on this community and active forums!

It's FSX.

I'd like to be able to place two or more ai gliders in flight, soaring a 'ridge' (actually cliffs at Perranporth in North Cornwall, UK), between two points no more than 3 or 4k apart, at a height of around 1000 feet.

These ai gliders would follow a constant flight path as shown here:

I am using GenX photo scenery, and have made an exclude in ADE to kill the MS airfield overlay, so things look as you see above.

The reason?

Well, it's a nostalgia trip. I flew gliders there for many years, had a lot of fun soaring the ridge in a North Westerly and catching thermals as they drifted in from the Atlantic. I'd like to write a 'scenario' for a soaring challenge for an online flying club which simulates those happy days. Those ai gliders are simply a realistic hazard of soaring a small ridge needing to keep a good lookout.

I installed the SDK and had a look at Traffic Tools, but can anyone please give advice about where to start, how to go about it, or otherwise give me a hand?

Should/could this be written as a mission, or can I just place ai gliders in flight as part of the airfield scenery?

Best wishes to all,

Gliderman

Guess nobody knows the answer.
Have you tried to do it with AIBTC and GE coordinates, adding a sim.cfg to the glider?
Haven't the faintest if this will work or not because I have not tried it and do not know if you can set altitude to non zero.

Just the job - the very thing, I am sure. I don't know the methodology at the moment, but I've done some C++ and Java coding and I think I can get going with the information there. I also know one of the contributors who I am sure might help.

Many thanks to you, and robystar for your replies.

Don't bother trying out my suggestion.
Just out of curiosity I tried it myself and it does not work. Altitude is ignored, so the glider circles on the ground.
