• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

lost file replacement....

I cannot find the original SBP for an airfield I made 4 yrs ago. Can I use the current VTTP.bgl to recover
& make another SBP file to use for editing & then compiling a new VTTP.bgl, like you can with ADE?

Hi Terry:

You may wish to try using the "Append" feature in SBuilder for FS2004 to see if it will open and display the type of BGL file in question.

Hope this helps ! :)

Hi Gary,

I can't get append to work SO I've started another file. I have the background image displaying & have saved the file.

But - I want to insert an airfield plan on top of it but can't see how to do this from wading through the tutorial.

With ADE9x this is an easy job.
Sbuilder wants coordinates but the plan doesn't have any.....
I suppose I could use the background image coords & then try to reduce the plan to fit the roads on the background image but this seems rather long-winded.
Do you know how to do it? !!

Terry.

Hi Terry:

By "airfield plan", do you mean a 2D graphic image file which is not yet geo-referenced /geo-rectified ("calibrated") in SBuilder for FS9 ? :scratchch

If so, one can 'calibrate' the 2D image file of the airfield plan ...if the image is "projected" in the same FS SDK Resample compatible GIS format as other imagery or GIS data beiing used by SBuilder.

Assuming the airfield plan 2D image file is "projected" in a FS SDK Resample compatible GIS format, one can identify a landmark near both the NW and SE corners of the image using ex: an aerial imagery background map captured by SBuilder from a internet aerial imagery tile server, and manually note geographic (Lat-Lon) coordinates for the 2 landmarks.

One can also zoom in via Google Earth or Google Maps (in 'Satellite' mode), and manually note geographic coordinates for the 2 landmarks.

Once the NW and SE landmark coordinates are noted, one can "calibrate" the 2D image file of the airfield plan for use in SBuilder for FS9 via:

SBuilderX Menu > Help > [Search Tab] > Search String: "calibrate" click 'List Topics' > Working with Maps > Map calibration

NOTE: as stated at the end of the above help page:

"This command creates a TXT file with the same base name as the bitmap, such that you do not need to recalibrate the map again if you need to use it in a different project. When you add a map to a project, SBuilder tries to read the calibration information from a TXT file with the same name as the bitmap. If the TXT file does not exist in the folder, SBuilder prompts you to the calibration process. This is essential when you use the same map across several projects."

FYI: The same type of geographic calibration file is created in a SBuilder-compatible text "world file" by Jim Keir's LWMViewer2 when one exports a bitmap of the LWMViewer2 workspace area display (using ones' FS9 scenery project VTTP.bgl file etc.); info on downloading LWMViewer is here:

Hope this helps a bit more ! :)

Good morning Gary,

This is a quick answer as I have to go out.....

This SnapTiles image is the original file the chap who started me off with sbuilder used. I have this & coordinates but not the sbp file. You will see it has the airfield plan on top of the satellite bmp image. I'll use 'plan' & 'image' from now on....

I have a new (wider) satellite image (so I can mark more roads) & I want to place the smaller plan on top....see grab_016.
I loaded bitmap into the new sbuilder project!

I'll read your answer more fully later when I get back.

Have a good day.
Terry.

I managed to do my hill thanks. I'm stuck with adding a plan to the image, but as I've got round the problem I'm not going to make a new airfield.

I'm afraid I started this airfield lark before learning how to do it tidily & the files are scattered throughout the machine. If I clean it up enough to package Ibsley I'll let you know. The airfield folder is 65MB without other libraries to account for!! FSGW3 is 11GB......

Cheers,
Terry.
