• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Maps2bgl scenery

Hi everybody. Can somebody tell me if it is posible to edit a kml created with mapsbgl from google and improve its colors? it is a rural area that google shows sort of obscure-greyish

once you have saved the kml, go to maps2bgl and open the kml, it will save all the images in 'tilechache' folder which you can find in the directory maps2bgl is installed, you will have to edit the images before clicking on the 'create tga and batch' becuase the tga images will be made of the jpg images in the 'tilechache' folder.

:)

Hi guys,Iv'e come back to this threat because after about a year I tried to use maps2bgl one more time, since the Google images on the location that I am tryin to get to FSX have been updated and are now really wonderfull. However having gone thru the whole Maps2bgl procedure and taken the scenery folders to FSX, when the airport with the sceneries is opened I find:
- The whole scenery as if shooted in Black and White
- When flying over it, I have an almost total blured scenery, without any sort of resolution.
- The default scenery not covered by Maps2bgl shows normal.

Someone told me that before creating the Batch File at Maps2bgl it waqs necesary to edit the jpegs at the cache tilde folder so as to get the correct colors? is this correrct? because if so, does it mean that one has to do this for every each jpeg? or is it that I am doing something wrong? because I have seen examples of works done with Maps2bgl,and they really seem quite nice.

Help and comments appreciated

Hi guys, seems that there is no interest fot this theme since I have no replys to it. Nevertheless let me say that after posting it, that I opened the 'tilechache' folder located in the directory that maps2bgl installed, and edit the images before clicking on the 'create tga and batch'. Its not an easy task but also not an impossible one and the black and white appearence did diminished considerably.
Having done this I am still not satisfied by the looks of the created scenery;it seems that since it stretches far away from the selected polygon, it shows itself blured when flyin over it, and I can know that I am on top of it by pressing the F12 key and looking at it from the top vew, from where the scerery shows as it really is? am I getting too difficult to follow or understand? hope I am not and hope someone has something to add or comment because at Gunnar's forum the language issue is a great problem for me.

If new imagery is present on the server you'll have to clear out your tiles cache directory (zip or otherwise keep a backup first) in order for Maps2Bgl to recognize the fact that it needs to download the new imagery, otherwise it checks and finds all the necessary tiles already present in the tilescache folder and won't download anything.

If you want to color adjust or water mask your photo scenery, do it after you've done "create tga & batch". Following that there should be some "15_000000.tga", "15_000001.tga", etc files in the Maps2Bgl\Temp folder. These have already been created by seaming the micro-tiles from the tilescache folder together and each .tga will be a compilation of dozens of the jpeg tiles. This makes your job much easier because you will be working with several (the number varies depending on the size of your photoscenery) 2049 x 1452 images rather than zillions of 256 x 256 .jpgs.

All that said, I'd be very interested in knowing how you're getting Maps2Bgl to download Google imagery. From what I've seen it seems that google has somehow blocked Maps2Bgl from downloading their imagery. I've resorted to imagery from virtual earth which has improved a lot since I started playing with Maps2Bgl and is now nearly, if not as good, as google. In some cases better.

EDIT: If you're having problems with your photoscenery being blurry in the distance make sure you have "Borders with smaller resolution" unchecked before you start downloading.
