• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have released a small update for MDL Tweaker II. No big changes this time, but some bugfixes and minor improvements. You can download the new version from the Download section.

The main changes are:

  • Fixed a crash when loading very complex objects.
  • Fixed a crash when minimizing the preview window.
  • When loading MDL objects you will now see a screen that shows you the loading progress. This was needed as complex objects (MDL sizes of about 1 MB) can take quite some time to load. Most task that require some time have also been grouped at the loading, so that MDL Tweaker should work as smooth as possible afterwards. But there are still some tasks that require iteration over the MDL object and can take a few minutes on complex objects (like adding seasonal textures). In these cases just wait, the tool has not stopped responding.
  • You can now select vertices in the vertex list based on the texture they use. This makes it easier to select for example all vertices of your trees, so that you can unify the normals.

I have also updated the manual to match this new version. But if you find any errors or miss things in the manual, please let me know.
 
One little addition. I forgot to mention that the MDL loading screen has two progress bars. The top one shows the overal steps in the loading process. There are five of them, so this bar will move slowly on complex objects. The bottom one just keeps on moving to indicate that something is still happening. When it hits the end, it will start from the beginning again. So it does not indicate how much has already been done.

...but for what tasks is the MDL TWEAKER made for?



Currently I`m already very sad, because I cant compile my newly

modeled aircraft. Not even a simple test sphere!

I find it very shitty that Microsoft gives out tools that seem to come

right from the MS DOS 5.0 age.

This announcement was posted before the site was called FsDeveloper.com, so that is why it is not very clear probably. MDL Tweaker is a tool to tweak the scenery MDL files made by MakeMDL, so that some things not supported by MakeMDL can still be done. Like adding seasonal textures or conditions to the display of your object. So it is a tool for scenery designers only.

If you have trouble with exporting from GMax I think you get more help if you post more details about your problem (and post it in the proper forum, so that other aircraft designers will also see it).
