• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MESH for small areas

Hi there fellas!

Before I embark on re-meshing my current project, I´d like to know if it is possible to create meshes for smaller areas than the LOD5 grid. I need to remesh an area that covers some 10x10 LOD13 squares, mainly to give some islands a little height. If not, is it possible to mask away the default area so that it is not touched, and have my mesh cover only the smaller area?

This might be a question answered a hundred times before, but MESH is brand new to me so a little push in the right direction is required.

Hi,

Your question is old but I will try to answer. The minimal size for a mesh is a square of 257 x 257 altitudes. There is no "transparent altitude" as in landclass scenery, so you must cover a complete square of 257 x 257 altitudes. You might be asking to what that translates to. If you want to cover a square equal to 1 LOD13 (one Area) you need altitudes at a grid of 4,8 meters. I suppose that FS2004 is not capable of handling a LOD13 mesh. Say that you come to more usual resolutions. Say a LOD10 mesh. In this case your minimal size will be 1 LOD10 = 8 x 8 LOD13s. If I can refer to SBuilder, the minimal size here is 1 LOD8. With SBuilder you need to cover a LOD8 square. You have 3 resolutions but the size will be, in all cases, 1 LOD8:

resolution LOD10 >> (4 x 256 + 1) x (4 x 256 + 1) altitudes for a size of 1 LOD8
resolution LOD09 >> (2 x 256 +1 ) x (2 x 256 + 1) altitudes for a size of 1 LOD8
resolution LOD08 >> 257 x 257 altitudes for a size of 1 LOD8

Regards, Luis
