Dear all,
I am a new comer and I would like to ask to advices on how to create a scenery. Can you help with mesh terrain? How can I get them free? How can I edit them in Gmax?

I hope you can cooperate.

Marco

Hi Marco,

Mesh terrain is not made with GMax. The SDK includes some special tools to make mesh terrain. Have a look at the Terrain SDK, especially at the resample tool.

Hi Arno,
Thanks for your reply.
Now I have a .bgl file of the area but I would like to modify the terrain with the real texture.
How can I do that?

Thanks for your help.

Marco

Hi Marco,

If you mean with real texture that you want to place an aerial or satelite photo on your terrain than that is possible with the resample tool as well.

If that is not what you mean, can you specify your question a little more.

Creating a scenery from the beginning!

Hi Arno,
I'll try to be more precise:
I would like to create a scenery and I have a .bgl file that reproduces coast line and mountains. I would like to improve this scenery by adding textures as I see them from a satellite pic (googlearth for example).
I understand that this file is based on DEM (digital elevation data)... so that's fine, I do not need to get a DEM myself and start from the beginning... or do I?
Sorry to be so general but I am really new to this and I do not understand the steps. I have used the "Creating Terrain SDK" from FS2004, but it did not help that much...

Finally, aswering your question:
yes, I do mean "real texture that you want to place an aerial or satelite photo on your terrain" but how can I do that with the resample tool?

Thanks for your time
Marco
