• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Meshing around with SBuilderX

However, I am still stumped with the exclude.

You need to exclude hydro-polys and shorelines in the two QMid11 rectangles then add new hydro-polys surrounding the islands. The main island is created from the hydro-polys in the two QMid rectangles, the smaller islands are created as holes:

Thanks George, that is what I did. However, now the islands appear flattened again in spite of the DEM BGL. Also noticed that the long strip of land that protrudes from the mainland is not displayed. In real life this strip of land is just wide enough for two way traffic and a sidewalk on one side. I think FSX expects the width to be greater than a minimum for it to display.

Haven't managed to get my islands with altitude again :(

Hello:

I'm wondering if the example work-flow illustrations George so kindly posted above in this thread, might be updated to also reflect George's latest discoveries as described in this thread:

Many Thanks again to George for sharing his insights with us on this often confusing process involving making / customizing islands, holes, shorelines ...while also allowing underlying default or custom terrain mesh to be displayed from underneath custom photoreal land class layers in water. :)

It works perfectly :)

Wonderful images, that's how I would love to see them in FSX. Pity it cannot be distributed so I will have to use standard landclasses instead. Not much of a purpose of creating something that cannot be shared :(

The other being that I have no idea why the Taboga island (the one with the town and heliport) and its nearby little island (except the one with the fishery) look all flattened out in my FSX. Can't figure it out, don't know what happened.

If you find the trick, please let me know

If you find the trick, please let me know, I am currently working on a Panama scenery and I am struggling getting the elevations for Miraflores locks; I will check which elevation add on I installed, (not on my head right now), it gave a very good elevation for Ancon, and the islands at panama entrance (cause way), I haven't check Taboga, but I will do so and let you know.

I am posting updates in YouTube, check for mrelibrumley.

So far the tool I am using is Sbuilderx, there might a trick that we can use to get those elevations set.

@Eli what mesh are you using? I am using FSX South America Mesh for most of central/south america and that is the best freeware I found. Then for the taboga part the ASTER DEM that was posted here. But even so the tree causeway islands (Naos, Perico, Flamenco) are flat. Noticed you use the same photo tile I used. I also get Ancon and a partial elevation for the hill that is on the left side of the approach to MPMG (just right of the Balboa port).

I have not yet found "the trick" I was happy with my Taboga then I did something in the SBuilderX and it flattened out. I tried by disabling all other sceneries and mesh and then enabling them partially but nothing, Taboga & Co. are still looking FLAT in my system and not like those posted here. I have no clue WHY.

Good that you are undertaking Panama city, I am concentrating on the rest of the republic. BTW I created a group called Latinamerica here @ FSDev.

Que sopa?
I am using the same mesh, so Taboga is flat, I managed to get a good looking elevation with the flat, slope and different elevation values for the points in SbuilderX (as workaround).

The scenery is almost ready, i am doing some fine-tunes to it, so it will be uploaded at any time, actually because of you I added Taboga, i will upload a video in YouTube in the next couple of days, search for mrelibrumley, it will be update number 9.

Note: if you know of any animated Panama Flag that i can include in the scenery, please let me know, there is one animated flag, but it is not working, so i have to go through the tutorial to get it working, time is what i am missing to get this project completed.

In real life Taboga is not flat. In my personal project Taboga was not flat either (with the mesh) but after some change it went flat. A couple of weeks ago I looked into it again and I think I found my flatness problem, the polygon holes for those two islands seem to have been deleted. I have not had the time to work on it because of my involvement in another project.

A good Panama city without Taboga is incomplete, same goes for the causeway. It is good that finally somebody puts some attention to Panama (I understand you are from Venezuela, right?). Specially the capital city with Tocumen, Marcos A. Gelabert and Howard, the ports, etc. It is a HUGE project so I am concentrating on the rest of the republic.

Unfortunately not, I believe the flag you tried was from Arno, I tried to use it too but as it turns out it was made for the FS9 SDK and I no longer have any FS9 stuff.

You, said it, so Taboga is in; I am currently finishing Gatun, i should end with part one this week.

I was not able to find pictures for MPHO, so no major changes to it in my project, MPMG is improved.

No animations as iI have to play with it a little bit more (I need to find time).

Once I complete Panama city part 2 (city and corredor sur), I will get my hands on my home town (Changuinola).
