• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Mission opens as FREE FLIGHT (for only 1 user)

Hello ...

I have a customer who has downloaded one of my missions (freeware) and he says it loads as a FREE FLIGHT. I've verified this with him.

This is strange since the file he downloaded is the same file that MANY others have downloaded and no one has had this problem. We're both working on it (to solve it), but I thought I'd reach out to the community to see if anyone can help.

Here's some background:
1) The mission was created on my PC (normal FSX SP2) and he's using Acceleration - this should not be a problem
2) I thought maybe there's something with his PC that's not "new" enough, but he reports having an even better system than mine (not hard to accomplish, actually)
3) I verified he installed everything into the correct folders ... and he did
4) He sent me the xml file for me to verify and it's identical to the one I included in the downloadable zip file

The ONLY thing I can think of is that the GUID I used already exists in his PC, so I sent him a new mission.xml file using a new GUID. I tested it on my PC and the mission loads fine. I am now waiting to hear back from him.

If there is ANYTHING you can think of, then please let me know what might be the problem.

If you want to check the file yourself, then you can download it here. It's the FREE DOWNLOAD zip file.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kind regards,
Chris

Most definitely not a GUID problem. I'm sure he just doesn't have the aircraft you assigned.

The assigned aircraft is the default Cessna 172. Surely he must have this, unless he's manipulated his arcraft.cfg file or perhaps moved the aircraft. I'll ask him to verify this.

He did say that the mission loads with the Cessna sitting there, but in Free Flight mode, not as a mission.

I'm not sure the aircraft is the issue, but I'll check with him.

Thanks for the help (so far).

weird installs on 64bit

i recently downloaded and installed a payware airport and ai aircraft..

om my 32 bit sys it installed fine

on the 64 bit it installed outside of program files x86...and installed in program
files.even building its own folders.....

i had to manually move it.....64 w7 can do some strange installs...jim

This customer's system specs: 790iMB / 8 gig Patriot Viper / Intel 9550 OC'd to 3.8 ghz - Dedicated Raptor just for FSX / GTX 285 OCFU GPU / Switec Liquid Cooled / Win 7 HP 64bit OS / Saitex X52 Pro Joystick / CH Pedals

So, perhaps it's because of the Win 7 64bit OS

What shall I do ... ensure the files are where they are supposed to be? It was just a zip folder and then he moved files to the correct location. I will check again with him. Any ideas on what exactly to check for?

64 bit

ime running my 32 bit sys at moment, to change to my 64 i have to swap drives in the bios...if i remember...i dloaed my paid for self installer.installed fine...switched to 64, ive got fsx/acc,on two drives....fired up self installer...

it installed to programs, made its own folders.and didnt work....in 64 bit w7
there are two program files folders...i simply moved the folders to the correct location

it works.....this may of course be not the problem....my only real expertise is
in building and clocking extreme systems.....64 bit o/s switches to 32 bit emulation mode when running 32 bit apps..ie fsx/acc...only advantage more ram..if youve just bunged in a gtx 480 fermi, and running vast ammounts of custom scenery, you will need it...otherwise 64 bit useless for fsx/acc...

the bott line must be, if it works for everyone but not for him...its not installed correctly....thats all it can be....especially if fsx is not in default location.....jim

this is a crazy idea....its installed correctly but corrupted......in missions it appears....but when you fire it up..it would crash fsx?...or maybe it reverts to free flight, with the a/c at the start point...but no mission......thats silly....its just not installed correctly......i presume he can fly the default mission?...jim

As I said before: most probably an aircraft issue. Tell him to add the debug line in his fsx.cfg to find the error.

but surely

the mission uses fsx default aircraft....aircraft works in free flight..

next test, use default mission, suitable for cessna but with different aircraft..
aircraft can be switched in mission..select changes allowed in fsx gui...
switch to cessna....

next is addon mission viewable in missions...can default missions be flown...

when clicking on addon mission, fsx reverts to free flight...answer mission not installed correctly....missions using default aircraft dont include aircraft...

when you find the answer let us know.....jim

Hello ...

Thank you (everyone) for your HELP with this strange issue. I'm glad to report this issue is now SOLVED !!!

Are you ready for the root cause ? ... it was ... get ready .... an aircraft issue OR an installation issue (depends on how you look at it) !!!

Congratulations to Horst18519 :) for saying it was an aircraft issue AND to jetwelder :) for saying it was not installed correctly (because his installation was not "default" - see below).

The mission loaded as a free flight for him with the correct airplane (default white with blue stripe Cessna 172) sitting where it was supposed to be, yet it was a free flight. After going back and forth on this we ended up using FSME to have him open the file and find any box with a red border around it. He reported seeing 4 red boxes. These boxes were all for the same thing ... the airplane I used as a "camera mount" for my intro sequence. This airplane was the default Cessna 172SP (don't ask me why I used this airplane as opposed to the same one the user flies). Missions get aircraft data from each user's Scenery Objects / Aircraft folder / aircraft.cfg file, so I copied my entry for this airplane and emailed it to him. The customer reported this:

"My aircraft.cfg #5 was not like yours, showing a different version. I renamed all the flight entries so I could insert your #5 - fired up and the video started as well as the co pilot voice and instructions."

So ... it is SOLVED ... but I don't know why his default Cessna 172 aircraft.cfg file would be different than mine (Probably because he altered it years ago)!

Thanks again for all your help !!!

Kind regards,
Chris
