• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Moving whole airport

I have a stock FSX airport that now extends into the ocean after installing Ultimae Terrain.

I have imported this airport into ADE and want to simply move everything back about 1/4 maile.

Is there any way to simply select everything and drag it to move the entire airport?

Any help appreciated.

No you cannot currently do this with ADE. Some utilities will allow you to do this and ADE will have a move function in a later version. However moving is not a simple task since there are a number of things associated with the airport including approach code that can get very messed up in a move.

Now that ADE has an approach editor we are getting close to feeling comfortable in providing this function.

This comment is not what you want to hear, but the first thing that popped into my mind....create a man made land mass and keep the airport where it is.. :) heh

sorry, but an idea until the move feature is included.

airport moving

The ability to move an airport such as rotating it would be very useful. It would make it so someone could use their airport at a different area, such as a different state and be able to rotate it so its runway direction is relavent to the actual wind directions. I would imagine this process would be the program calculating the position of every node in an arc so that its new coordinates are accurate.

i screwed up on the same thing the other day...

what would probably be easiest is to be able to copy and paste the whole airport... just have a "drag-box" that you could select everything then copy it centered over the correct ARP... would this work?:)

Resurrecting this thread

Hi Guys!
I dug this thread out since I met a similar problem: in my case the Larisa AB in Greece has a river crossing the runaway and taxyways. I was able to eliminate most of the rest, like bridges and car traffic using ADEX tools, but using the Land class poly to define the area would not eliminate the river, nor the road textures...

Checking in google map and comparing the top view in FSX I noticed the airport is placed in the wrong coordinates in relation to the rivers and city.

Any news on moving the whole AB further away and reposition it? Or is there any solution to have the Airport LC take higher priority on the river and city streets?

TIA

OK, I was able to use specific exclude polys for water and streets: not a perfect solution, but not that bad either...

As mentioned ADE will move and/or rotate airports. You need a ProKey for these features.

Will ADE Pro be able to move the whole project maintaining all objects' relative positions?

Ahem, WoW, this only would make me think of buying the Pro Key...:D

With it is it also possible to multi-select, copy and paste specific objects?
I have a few of them that need to be very precisely aligned when placed, so I always have to go back and forth with FSX to make adjustments, but that would become a burden when you have to place these ensembles of aligned objects for a hundred times over...

PS: some further questions, if I may; how do you practically move the whole airport? In my case i.e. I was able to compare the top view in FSX with the satellite in google, so I was able to slew the aircraft to a relatively right position where one specific point of the airport needed to be shifted, but that was not the tower position or ARP center... How do you shift the whole airport where you do need it to be placed? Besides the advantage here is that Larisa AB has no ILSs, so only visual approach.

You can use the ProKey for 15 days so you can try it out.

As for how the airport can be moved. There are several ways
  • Drag one object and have the rest of the airport move in synch. So if you know a runway is off by a bit then drag the runway and the rest will move while the relationships stay the same
  • Move the airport reference point to a new set of user defined coordinates.
  • Set a distance and bearing. E.g. move the airport on a heading of 087 for 150 meters

You will also have a choice of what to move. Clearly you want the airport to moveand probably the buildings. You may not want to move terminal fixes, but you might. You probably don't want to move exclusion rectangles because they will be excluding things in other files and if you are working in FSX then you can also choose whether to move terrain elements or not.

Finally along with moving an airport you can rotate it. This means all elements of the airport can be rotated about any point you choose by an amount you choose. Or you can just rotate one object - say the runway - and have everything else move around by the same relative amount.

Thank you Jon!;)
Will check the Pro Key indeed!

What about my other inquiry? Is it now possible to have multiple objects selections with copy/cut paste functions?
I'm still using one of the previous versions of ADE (I'm on another machine right now and cannot check it), possibly 4.7 or somethin' and with that version only a single object can be selected at a time.

Multi select works in 1.5 for a number of things but not copy/paste at the moment.
