• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Named color faces are not painted on the end result

I followed the tutorial and managed -for the first time ever- to create a small terminal building for an add-on scenery based on photos I took on site.

For the walls and columns I mostly used what was used in real life: bricks, tiles, wood, etc. However, over here most buildings are made with concrete which is then painted over (any color). So many of the faces of my building were "painted" with the Apply Texture tool and selecting "Named Color" and then I selected a color (Comsy Beige or something like that) that closely matched the real life color.

When I tested my scenery I saw all textures (DDS) displaying properly, the wooden doors, the brick fence, the stained glass windows, the square brick columns, and the colonial roof tiles. However, the concrete walls that were painted with a named color (Comsy Beige) were all displayed in dull grey :-(

Does that mean that the Model Converter X tool does not support "named colors" or am I perhaps missing something else?

Hi,

The conversion should support using just colours and no textures. But I am not sure what this "named colour" option does. I'll have a look and see if I can reproduce your problem.

Hi,

I just tried than these colours get imported correctly in ModelConverterX (I could not find your beige, but I tried a few others). Is it in FSX or in ModelConverterX that the colour information gets lost?

My colour is found by selecting the "Colors-Named" selection in the materials drop down. Then in the palette that is shown my colour is "0051_Comsilk" which is kind of a beige (distinguishable).

I just "imported" it again in Model Converter X and I can see my building with the other textures. The walls that are painted in that colour show in White when I have it right in front (frontal view or side view). If I put the building in perspective (isometric) then the walls appear in some sort of beige but I am not sure if that is "my" chosen colour or just a shadow effect by ModelConverterX.

Great tool BTW, thanks.

Hi,

Have you tested it in FS as well? The shading in ModelConverterX can be slightly different.

I see that SketchUp only exports those materials as a diffuse colour, with no ambient colour. That's probably why it looks like it looks in ModelConverterX. You could also try to set the ambient colour to the same colour as the diffuse colour in the ModelConverterX material editor. But I would only do that if in FS it does not look correct.
