• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Need Advice...

I'm pretty excited about SAMM... using v2204.

But I can't figure out the "right" way to do things... apparently I just don't know what I'm doing.

When I create libraries, SAMM scatters textures all over my hard drive then still says "can't find texture/non-existent folder scenery\global\texture", etc. Even when it doesn't complain, often textures are not found and my models are solid black.

I have sometimes solved the issue by copying textures to several different folders, including Addon Scenery\texture, \texture, and scenery\global\texture.

What is the "right way"? Where should libraries and textures be saved and what settings in SAMM will put them there?

Also I am unable to compile models for FSX from FS9 aircraft... I get the "MCX.dll issue, probably due to the use of ",""... but that's not my problem. My locale has never been anything but US English. Is there a fix for this?

If not, is it possible to compile and use models as FS9 in FSX?

Thanks very much for a great tool!

That seems unlikely. Perhaps you could be a little more specific.

It appears you are attempting to convert an aircraft not intended for use with the version of Flightsim for which you are converting. "Global" textures are textures the aircraft designer expected to be provided within Flightsim itself.

A static aircraft library requires the same handling as any other scenery object library. For single aircraft, SAMM will place the textures for you.

SAMM includes an extensive user manual. As noted above, libraries and textures are handled in exactly the same way as any other scenery object library. If you are not sure of that, there are literally hundreds of posts throughout fsDeveloper on the topic.

Also I am unable to compile models for FSX from FS9 aircraft
The most likely causes are that SAMM asked you to locate makeMDL.parts.xml and/or makemdl.exe (see Page 1 of the user manual) and you failed to do so, or that the installation of SAMM is faulty. I can't respond further to this without having the aircraft to convert.
