• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

You'll probably get better answers if you post in the aircraft forum. If you are using gmax, there is a gmax forum.

modelling

which fs version, gmax, or other...its important to know as there are variations, depending on what your using, fs9, is different to fsx.

and which modelling program are you using...jim

vc and exterior

ime using gmax. but i also have fsds 3.5 i think....anyway it would be worth
checking out fsds tweak, a n addon search this site...look in fsx sim objects.
aercraft to examine the file structure...you will see an interior model, and an exterior model...this means building two models, but as the interior model is more detailed but must contain also what you can see of the external view from inside the cockpit,,,,,

the first model you build ie the external view, can be cloned and then what you cant see from the cockpit deleted...now you have two files an external
view including what you can see from outside the cockpit, pilot, simple panel.
guages non working, done with textures, because you dont need to see working guages from outside,,

and a seperate file, an internal view, beutifully modeled with working guages etc....

in gmax i can finish my external model, and export to the sim and fly around..
when i switch to cockpit view, nothing just an uniterrupted view outside..

until that is i export the internal view....fsds has some advantages in export to fsx, as you
can alias yours with an existing model. it builds the files for you.but doesnt do a complete job,and you will still have to do some file and xml tweaking.

but its a good start...i take my cloned external view remove what ime sure
wont be seen from inside, with an empty cockpit. i export...and view from
inside the sim, in cockpit view..i look outside and what i cant see i delete..

leaving a cut down model of the ext model to be used for internal...

i then save just the basic interior tub, as seperate files which can be merged
back into one whole...

so ive got external file, internal file, bare tub, panel one panel two,,etc etc etc...when ive finished or to test i can merge panel one into tub.panel two into tub etc etc,,, hope you get the general idea...gmax and fsds are not the same, but the basic principles apply....jim
