• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New Google Server

I assume I'm supposed to know this, but I don't. . .where do all the additional files for the latest server go?
Those with the "cs, csproj, sln and suo" extensions. Also, do I delete the current GoogleServer.dll file and replace it with the new "api" file or is the new one in addition to what's already in the Tile folder?

Hi,

Yes, you can replace the old GoogleServer.dll with GoogleServer_api3.dll. I assume the rest is developer files left inside the archive in case somebody wishes to edit them and compile a new DLL in order to "improve" it.

I've just put the new GoogleServer_api3.dll into the SBX\Tiles folder (as usual), then copied the folder GoogleServer_api3 from the archive into SBX root folder. That's it!

Thanks, however there are two "Tiles" folders. . .one in the main SBX folder and one inside the "Tools" folder. Also, the only tile sets that appear to be complete are from the ArcGISImagery server and VirtualEarth. The tiles folder for the new API3 version contains tiles that appear to have been collected in the middle of the Pacific Ocean somewhere and the "Show Background" feature is no longer active, it's grayed out.

UPDATE: For what it's worth, this new server does nothing except place you near the Christmas Islands. . .regardless of where your aircraft is parked. So every server (ArcGIS, VirtualEarth, Google, etc all default to a single position off the west coast of Africa. This is with the "_api3.dll" located in SBX\Tiles folder. I've been using SBX for years to produce scenery and have never run into any problems until now so what gives?

Hi Ed:

All rhumbaflappy's latest SBuilderX web tile down-loader *.DLL files (such as "GoogleServer_api3.dll") should be located (only) in:

[SBuilderX install path]\Tiles\ sub-folder root location

FYI: There should only be (1) such "Tiles" sub-folder chain in a default install of SBuilderX.

Although SBuilderX (probably) ignores the "Tiles" sub-folder chain inside your "Tools" sub-folder chain, I don''t have such a second "Tiles" sub-folder chain, and the new "GoogleServer_api3.dll " is working OK on my system.

PS: For additional info related to the above suggestions, see:

Hope this helps ! :)

Thanks Gary, but no, not really. What I am doing though is starting over from scratch. Installing a clean version of SBX, moving all my work into the new version and ignoring the new "_api3.dll". As far as I can tell, everything was fine until I added the new server dll. After that, even if I placed my airplane at an airport in East Texas, the servers (any server) would only collect tiles from the area near the Christmas Islands.

Hi Ed:

That's curious, as I simply added the new "GoogleServer_api3.dll " to my:

[SBuilderX install path]\Tiles\ sub-folder root location

...and then manually entered the Geographic coordinates of my project du jour as the default "start location" in the SBuilder.ini as discussed at:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/sbuilderx-background-not-showing-up.440471/#post-775811

...and the SBuilderX web tile down-loader dialogs all worked OK for me. :scratchch

NOTE: I do also have the original "GoogleServer.dll " in my:

[SBuilderX install path]\Tiles\

...
sub-folder root location (which still works with no complications.)

What I have found to be necessary is manually entering the Geographic coordinates of my project du jour as a default "start location" in SBuilder.ini: :pushpin:

SBuilderX Menu > Edit > Preferences > {Background Tab} > click [INI File] button < file opens in Windows NotePad >

[Main]
LonIniCenter=-9.136076 <-- Your own project's central Longitude goes here
LatIniCenter= 38.7813203 <-- Your own project's central Latitude goes here
DecimalDegrees=True
MeasuringMeters=True
BGLFolder=C:\MyPrograms\SBuilderX314\Scenery <-- Your own project's compiled BGL 'active' \Scenery folder path goes here
OriginalTerrainCFG=False

1.) When configuration of your SBuilderX project is completed via editing "SBuilder.ini" in Windows NotePad:

.....a.) In Windows NotePad Menu > File > Save As... > "Save as type" field, set to "All Files (*.*)" (do not click OK yet)

.....b.) In NotePad Menu > File > Save As... > "Save In" field, browse to [SBuilderX install path] folder; double-click to select it

2.) Back in NotePad Menu > File > Save As... browse dialog, click "OK"

.....a.) When prompted to over-write Sbuilder.ini, click "YES" to save your edits to that file.

3.) Exit and re-start SBuilderX (...or the above changes will not yet take effect) :alert:

[EDITED]

BTW: If you instead prefer starting at an airport in FS, then linking SBuilderX to FS via:

SBuilderX Menu > View > Show Aircraft

...
perhaps a FSUIPC DLL issue is involved ?

Hope this might prove more helpful after re-installing SBuilderX into Windows-7 from the "complete package" ZIP file that rhumbaflappy posted, then re-installing all the most recent tile server updates I linked to above into that new [SBuilderX v3.14 (64-Bit) install path]\Tiles sub-folder:

Hi all.

Until Luis returns from sailing, I'm going to make available a zip file of a complete SBuilderX314 folder. It contains everything. Just unzip it to the harddrive location of choice, and it should run on any 64-bit Windows7 or Windows8. Make a shortcut of the SBuilderX.exe and place that on your desktop, if you like.

When Luis returns, he'll decide if a full 314 installer is a good option, and I'll remove this zip from the cloud.

This should end installation problems a few users are still having.

PS: I'm rather intrigued as to why SBuilderX and/or FSUIPC would send the center of the SBuilderX background map to coordinates near Christmas Island (aka "Kiribati" or "Kirimati") ?

Ed,

Offtopic: As a workaround, I would also suggest trying SAS Planet, which you can download here: https://bitbucket.org/sas_team/sas.planet.bin/downloads/

The user interface may look a bit sophisticated but it does the job of downloading and stiching the tiles as advertised and after watching this video, you'll get used to the workflow. It works with more tile servers, zoom levels and georeference systems than SBX. I switched to it after I had problems with stuck tiles and OOM errors in SBX. Just a recommendation...

Again, it isn't a replacement for SBX but will download, stitch and convert the tiles as required, which you can later use a background image in SBX. It also saves the NW-SE coordinates of stiched tiles in a separate text file similar to SBX.

Please ask or pm me any time if you need assistance with this tool.

The GoogleServer_api3.dll doesn't replace the GoogleServer.dll They are different tile servers and will produce separate tile sub-folders. There are 2 DLLs in the zipped GoogleServer_api3 package. The x64 DLL is for SBX 314 64-bit. The x86 DLL is for SBX 313 or the SBX 314 32-bit.

IIUC, Dick is saying that each 'numerically-named' sub-folder chain, deeply nested underneath each unique web tile down-loader DLL type "top-folder" in:

[SBuilderX install path]\Tiles\ sub-folder root location

...contains imagery files with unique names pertinent to their "zoom" level and Geographic coordinates created by each SBuilderX web tile server. :pushpin:

AFAIK, this should not be interpreted as saying a top folder named "Tiles" is created underneath each unique web tile down-loader DLL type "top-folder" in:

[SBuilderX install path]\Tiles\ sub-folder root location

...as AFAIK, there should only be (1) such "Tiles" sub-folder chain in a default install of SBuilderX.

Hi Ed:

[EDITED]

I see in your recent posts still online at SOH forum that apparently you had taken the plunge and begun using P3Dv4, so I'll mention this since you did that, and IIUC, are still fine-tuning and filling out the Windows-7 total re-build of your FSX and P3D installation(s).

Assuming that FSUIPC 'might' be a factor in the SBuilderX background map Geographic coordinates centering anomaly you reported in the OP above, be aware that apparently one must also install (2) separate versions of FSUIPC:

* (1) version for FSX, FSX_SE, P3dv1.4, P3Dv2,x, P3Dv3.x

...and:

* (1) new version that is required for P3Dv4:

Interesting utility that does seem promising, however I have yet to come across a tutorial with sound/english narrative. Everything is either like the one you linked to, which has no sound and is difficult to follow or they are in various foreign languages. . .one of which actually had music playing over it making it impossible to understand the narrative. I'll look into this sometime if SBX continues to falter. Thanks

Hi Ed:

Since there are a number of folks here who may begin developing add-ons for P3Dv4 (using SBuilderX), it would be helpful for us all to know whether the FSUIPC-related recommendations suggested to you here:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/new-google-server.440569/#post-776913

...resolved SBuilderX' background map Geographic coordinates centering anomaly you reported in the OP.

Also, it would be helpful for others to know whether you only experienced this anomaly when you used the SBuilderX feature to "Show Aircraft" position for a linked, concurrent flight in FS (which requires compatible functionality of FSUIPC) ...versus having manually set Geographic coordinates at the center position for your scenery project area in the SBuilder.ini file. :scratchch

Since the latest P3Dv4 compatible version of FSUIPC apparently was only released a few days ago, and previously we only had to load (1) version of FSUIPC into FS and/or P3D, others here may not yet know that potentially (2) versions of FSUIPC may need to be separately installed when SBuilderX is to be used with both FSX and P3Dv4; so IMHO, we'd all appreciate your further feedback on this troubleshooting scenario. :)
