• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

No birds visible when soaring

I purchased Flight Simulator X,Deluxe Edition.
I studied the settings and read that when Thermal visualization is set to normal ( see Weather ) I should see flying birds
in the the thermals. This is not the case on my computer
and I wonder why ?
My Graphic card is Nvidia 8800 , Memory 4 GB , CPU 6500 MHz,
AMD dual core.

Can anyone help ?

Tks

Mine's the same. I see birds when I add them with the SDK ObjectPlacement tool, but never when I'm soaring with the natural thermal visualisations either. I also never see any whales when doing the (Hawaii?) checkride either, though I wondered whetehr I was just looking in the wrong place. (They also work when I add them with the SDK tools.)

I do see the lost baby elephant in the microlight mission so I know that at least some of the "living world" stuff works in the sim.

My PC's a P4 3GHz (2Gb RAM) with 7800GT 512Mb graphics card.

You need to set thermal visualization to "natural" in order to see the birds. They're not easy to spot but if you're within a thermal you should find some of them. ;)

The whales are also difficult to spot, but they're there, trust me. :)

The only place I ever saw birds in thermals was near Mount Cook (MZMC). Uphill from the airport they are very visible there.

Horst,
Are you saying that the birds are visible in free flight when thermal visualisation is set to natural, or only in missions, (where they would have been hand placed)?

Perhaps it is my error in that I was assuming they would be visible as an alternative to the schematic visualisation, and as such be visible in free flight also.

I say wherever you see those semitransparent spirals if you select - what's it called? - schematical visualization? Anyway, wherever you see those spirals you will definitely see the eagles when selecting natural visualization. At least that is what I experience in my FSX. :)

they're called cloud suspension systems! :o:):D:rotfl::laughing::rotfl:

:D Now that is the ultimate question why clouds flow in the sky and don't fall to the earth. :D
