• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 No working animations on compiled model

I recently purchased P3D v4 and installed it as well as the most recent SDK 4.2.21.24084. Now when I export a model none of the animations work in the sim. Before I installed v4 of the sim I was using SDK 4.1.7.22841 to link 3ds Max and export. There were no problems with the models in the sim. I have gone through every step of the process and can not find a reason for the problem. I returned to the previous version of the SDK and still the problem persists. It doesn’t matter which version of P3D I compile for, the animations will not work.

In Max the correct modeldef file is active and can be seen in the animation manager. On export (yes I always check animations and skins) the X and xanim files are generated without error. On XtoMDL compilation the build log shows all processed animations as is usual. When the MDL file is added to the sim not a single animation is functioning. All animated parts are in the (0 key frame) position such as elevator, ailerons and rudder as well as all the other animated parts.

I’m at a loss as to what has happened. I’m hoping it issomething stupid I overlooked and that someone can point to the error of myways.

maybe make a test model or x file for people to check.

check is 3D max generated xanim ( and not 0 kb).
check that xtomdl has correct link to modeldef before compiling.
check there no wrong code structure inside modeldef (hate this as notepad++ doesn't have auto correct, lol)
check animation on your mdl file on MCX see is it animated or not.

I still using FSX xtomdl 64 version ( Sean author) to compile model to be use from FSX till P3Dv4.

I can see no errors with the xanim file when viewed in notepad++.

I have checked and re-checked to insure that the proper path is used to point to the correct modeldef.

The modeldef would fail to function in Max and cause an error on export if the overall code structure were incorrect. While I did make some changes to the current modeldef, reverting to a previous version that was used successfully still ends up with the same non-animation results.

After your post I installed the latest version of MCX and imported the MDL file. All animations work in MCX.

Then it seems either your mdl is jinxed, as sometimes happens, or it is the P3D setup, as that is the latest significant change before things went pearshape.

Easy to check. Make a new mdl with a trivial animation, export, test. Or, as Rick suggested, post your mdl, or part of your mdl, here for us to run through the sim, I'd be happy to test it on FSX SP2, P3D 3 and 4.1. Always wanted a ... what was it, Defiant? Battle?

No update on my problem, seems my computer is going through a complete meltdown once again. :banghead:

I appreciate the offer and you will be one of the first to test the Defiant when and if I ever get to that point.
I do have a personal friend known here who can test it should I ask. I'm not at that point quite yet.
