• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Object priority strategy

When placing objects in a scenery, what strategy do you use for their priority (Very sparse to Extremely Dense)?

The more essential objects have a higher priority (tending towards Very Sparse) and the less essential objects have a lower priority (tending towards Extremely Dense).

Each individual designer will have his/her own ideas of what is essential and what is not. I would think that most will give a higher priority to items such as a Control Tower and a lower priority to some smaller buildings (store rooms etc.) and cars in the car park.

Thanks Graham,

That makes sense of course, I just wondered if anyone had developed some rules they follow or if they play it by ear. There's quite a few levels to choose from, so I'm trying to find a rule of thumb for the different what to place under the different settings to create an efficient workflow when making large sceneries (whole towns, large airports etc.).

For the scripts I have written to convert point shapefiles into XML, I simply iterate through the valid values of the scenery density....its a bit simplistic but easy.

This will mean that the scenery density values will be equally proportioned through my Sceneryobjects. In actual fact that is a exponential relationship since each time you bump up the density slider in the scenery options, you add the next level to ALL of the lower levels.
