• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Objects move in FSX SP2

Hi all, hope the community can help with this one.

The problem is,when i place an object on fotoreal ground the object move after i reloaded FSX with sp2.

It move my custon models and libary object after reload,so it not my models.
I use instant scenery v1.04 to place the objects.

Flight1 say it must be a sp2 bug,see post - http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=31999

I only found the problem after i placed the fotoreal ground,on default ground you cant see the problem.I am working on a big project and are finaly done building the objects, now i cant get it placed right on the ground,it looks like FSX is rounding the object coordinates for some reason.

Do other designers have the same problem or is it just me.

See pics

Thanks

Unfortunately I am not using Instant Scenery, so I have not have this problem. I assume the first picture shows the object placed with the tool, while the second is the compiled BGL file?

Thanks Arno for looking at my post, yes first one is placing and second one is the bgl after fsx reload.

My trouble started when sp2 came out.
What i think is that instant scenery V1.04 got n problem and is not compatible yet with sp2.

But Flight1 say it n sp2 problem,so does the object placement tool got a bug in it,i think it instant scenery that rounding the object coordinates off for some reason .

Thanks Frits

Arno i did a test,i placed this place only with FSX sp1 installed and instant scenery V1.04 and no problems.

But now i still dont know if the problem is sp2 or instant scenery.

I guess only the author of Instant Scenery can tell us for sure if the bug is in SP2 or in the tool.

It could be interesting to see if you get different coordinates between SP1 and SP2. I don't have both versions installed side by side, but I would expect that the result is the same if you load a BGL file with the same coordinates.

Hallo Arno,I loaded the FSX sp1 bgl that i placed about in FSX sp2 and the objects move like in the beginning of the post,i will do more tests.

Like you said only the author will know if there is n bug.

Hi,

If the BGL that worked in SP1, results in moved objects in SP2, then I would say it could be a bug in FSX. Let us know if you figure out more.

Hi Arno, what i am gowing to do next is format my pc,then see what happens, and load windows 7 will am at it.

I want to clean my registry, just to make sure the problem dont come from there.

I will let you know what happens.

Thanks Frits

Hi Arno

I have done the format on my pc and Windows 7 rocks.

Now for the not so good news, the objects still move under sp2,so there must be a bug in sp2.

Arno is there more ways you think we can test and make sure?

Thanks

If you are using the same placement BGL, that discounts any problem with Instant Scenery and points to FSX. But I would question if the "bug" is releated to SP2 or SP1? I don't know. But SP2/Accelleration is the last available version, with as many of the problems "fixed" in them. And that is what I would design towards. If a user doesn't want to update past SP1, then they need to accept that there may be some visual inaccuracies.

Yes all the model are pure sp2 code,so what i think is sp2 placment tool got a bug,not a problem if you work on default ground then you dont see the offset, but if you got a fotoreal base then you see the offset.

The problem is i see it!

And i only design for FSX sp/2 Accelleration. Now i have to place the object in a offset to get then in place, and that takes time bummer!

Hi Frits,

If the same BGL gives a change then either the photo scenery BGL or the object BGL got displaced I guess. Let me try to see if I also notice such offsets in a project I am working on, although I did not see them until now.

How big is the offset you are seeing? A few centimetres, decimetres, meters, ...

Hi Arno

The Offset is about one meter and it not the Foto real ground i made in Xbuilder,i placed the object on default ground and it moves there as well.

So it instant scenery V1.04 or Sp2,so if your object dont move i will send you a object and you can maybe test if you like.

I also export as an xfile and then compile as model with the SDK,do you think there is may be a bug?I dont know how to find the problem,i have tested almost everything you can think off.

Thanks for all you help.

Hi Folks

Frits -
When using the OPT to place objects
it's best to them from the top-down view only,
as it's very easy to introduce a slight offset
from placing from other views.

It may also be that
the model's centre is offset from the visual object.

ISTR reporting this issue previously.
IIRC its not the OPT itself,
as it occured directly with bglcomp.

There could also possibly be a round-earth issue
with the offset having a latitude-dependency on the oblate spheroid correction.

Always mean't to track down which.

To test whether its cause is bglcomp or round-earth.

Where # initially == 1

1) Compile your myscenery_#.xml as myscenery_#.bgl

2) Decompile myscenery_#.bgl to myscenery_# + 1.xml

3) Compile myscenery_# + 1.xml to myscenery_# + 1.bgl

Repeat steps 2) & 3) to # == 5

Place all 5 bgl in an active scenery folder.
Now fire up FSX.
Look at your scenery location.

If it's a bglcomp / bgl2xml issue
for each of the 5 items
the xml lat/lon will be increasingly offset by the error amount.
IIRC this occured.

If it were a round-earth issue
all 5 items will be co-located,
at that latitude's offset.

You could further check the round-earth aspect
by compiling a set for -
a) Zero latitude (equator)
b) 66 deg lat, (approx arctic circle).

Thanks Paul i will look into it,it sounds like a mission.

The problem is i want to design and not solve FSX problems,i lost two weeks work time to find the bug.

Whey cant things just work, but thats life.
