• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Odd Engine Flat Plateau Issue

Hey all,

I have a very odd sound problem from my high end number four engine sound. It seems to hang from 50% throttle to full throttle, all being one sound tone/pitch. Then from 49& to 0 its back to normal tones, from high to low.

What this means is that from 50% throttle, through 75% throttle, through to 100% throttle, its the exact same sound. You can back off from full throttle and watch the Tach slowing down, but the sound stays the same.

The prop is a Fixed Pitch.

I have gone through the airfiles trying to figure out what in the world could be causing this and havent found a single thing. I have tried messing with the Pitch Beta for the fixed pitch blades setting. I looked all through the Air file. Nothing.. The airfile templates are from the Piper Cub stock aircraft, modified to a faster aircraft with higher cubic inches per cylinder to bring the aircraft up to speed.

Any idea's on what could be causing this oddity? I would be very greatful for any idea's or input or guesses.

Hi All:

See also the thread at:

It appears Bill has resolved his question in regards to this interesting aspect of the FS sound.cfg and aircraft.cfg file interaction when configuring FS engine sounds.

Perhaps as more is discovered about this arcane topic, we might see a WIKI on this here at FSDeveloper?

Thanks for bringing this to light, Bill! :)

Hey Gary,

I was most greatful to have the fix presented.

As it turns out, the culprit was 'hp' rating. I had it set to 65 HP, and as it turned out, FS uses the HP rating for the peak zone of the sound config. It must interact with another equasion, such as total cubic inches from the cylinders, as I had adjusted that only, which caused the issue with the sound config. Raising the HP rating (which doesnt change speed or engine output) caused the sound file to function once again, going from zero to 100% smoothly.

This has been an issue for me on past projects. Its good to finally at least know basically how to get around this...
