• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3Dv5 ground zbias numbers

Has anybody come across this problem yet? Z-bias numbers below 26 (?) don't seem to work in P3Dv5. Despite the SDK claiming you can use zbias layers all the way up (or rather down) to -50, numbers of -30 already give me flickering ground textures. This seems to be a bug in P3Dv5.
Would be interesting to know if you experience similar problems with ground layering in P3Dv5.

I installed my WIP scenery with multi layer GPs. I had Z-bias from 16 to 34. They all show but I have problems on how they show:

- Alpha transparency is less. It seems I need to make Aplha layers in transparent materials more black
- Spec map intensity is less. It is like I also need to increase the intensity in all spec maps
- Precipitation properties and reflectivity when raining do not seem to work

I wonder if by recompiling the GPs and assigning Z-bias above 26 will change anything. I may try.

Edit: I tried recompiling by starting from 26 and it did not make a difference. Actually I ran out of Z-bias and a few of the top layers did not show.

So in my case v5 has some differences in how it renders stuff but all Z-bias above 16 show.

I have started using z-bias at the lowest possible levels with good success. In KRND, I used -1 through -7 for the ground. In KPDX, my latest update uses -1 through -13 and seems to work very well. A LM representative told me to keep the numbers low to avoid draw order issues.

By the way, if you use the bglcomp.exe that ships with the P3Dv5 SDK, these numbers should work for P3D 4.5 as well.
