Placing text letters in a ground poly.

I can't seem to find anything on how to place text letters on a ground poly. Is this possible now with the new GP editor option without having to create a separate texture file with the letters and then place it on a ground poly? What I want to do is place an airport name on the ground next to a runway.

Thanks

There is somewhere a bgl library containing letters as objects. I am trying to remember who created it - it might have been Sidney Schwartz. However I am sure someone will be able to remember. You should then be able to just place the letters as library objects. To do it with Custom GPs you would need to create a texture with the name on and then use it in a custom ground poly.

You can place an entire airport name on the ground with a single poly using ADE_GP. But, you will need to create a single color texture with an alpha channel outlining the name.

I did it just last week using Gmax (elevation 0,01m) and placing it as a Model. Takes 2 minutes. Are you familiar with Gmax ?

Thanks Don.
This is what I was looking for, but I can't seem to find the menu selection to do this.

Thanks SD. I found the file and installed it. Bad and good results.

Bad...the file doesn't include thumbnails to see what the characters are to use them in ADE.
Good..I was able ti use Instant Scenery to place the objects. I had to first change the object name menu to display the objects by name instead of GUI #.

Create a texture sheet (512 or longer on the long side to remain sharp when up close) in the color you want the name displayed. Then, add an alpha channel (white letters on a black background) making the name. This, of course is done with Photoshop or another imaging tool of your choice. Add a 24bit version of the alpha channel image to your ADE Textures_Dpy folder and a DXT1 (with alpha) version of the texture to your ADR Textures folder.

In ADE, create a single, rectangular ground poly where you want the name displayed and assign the texture to it with the GP editor. You can either declare the ground dimensions of the name using the Texture Editor (ADE Tools menu) or "stretch/shrink" the poly to fit the texture in the editor.
