• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello Everyone.

I used the mirror tool, without having a backup
Now all the polys are transparent from the outside when they should be from the inside if the object.

Its liek if gmax turned the model inside out.
Is it possible to change this?

Never use that mirror from the tool bar...................

Fix:

You need to flip it back.

Now use the evil mirror and mirror it back to where you started.

Now you are where you wanted to mirror in the first case.

Use the mirror from the modifier list.

Finished.

------------------------------
This is a good tip for making perfect left to right mirror everytime.
Mirror tip:
If you ever mirror a part that is not aligned to the world. Simply clone another and select both parts and mirror.
Then just throw one away. This will save time when it does not want to mirror the way you wanted.

You now know how to fix the problem, but...
...and please forgive me for SCREAMING...

YOU ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP!!!!!

By default, both Max and GMax will make a timed "backup" of your scene unless you've taken the extra effort to disable it!

Look in your ..\gmax\autoback folder. Here is mine:

Code:
Volume in drive C is OS
 Volume Serial Number is B4D6-EB49

 Directory of C:\gmax\autoback

09/16/2011 04:46 PM 15,219,200 Autobak1.gx
09/16/2011 04:16 PM 15,259,648 Autobak2.gx
09/16/2011 04:21 PM 15,259,648 Autobak3.gx
09/16/2011 04:26 PM 15,419,904 Autobak4.gx
09/16/2011 04:32 PM 15,416,320 Autobak5.gx
09/12/2011 03:38 PM 2,256,896 MaxBack.bak

Note that the "most current" Autobak file is "Autobak1.gx"

If I need to "recover" from either a program crash, or a failed procedure, all I have to do is use GMax to navigate to the ..\gmax\autoback folder, select "All Files" and then load the last automatically saved scene.

The MOST I will ever loose is the last five minutes of work. :D

While I (hopefully) still have your attention, might I suggest that you open the Preferences dialog and check out the options for recovery?
  1. Set the Autoback system for a minimum of 5 autobackups, timed every 5 minutes.
  2. Set auto-increment so that every time you "Save" your scene it will automatically create an incremented file. When you save the first time, add a suffix to the filename such as MyAirplane_01.gmax. The next time you save, it will be autoincremented to MyAirplane_02.gmax...

I had to do this last month. The help area says to rename it from .gx to .max if you do not have a .bak

Then you can open it.

Your right bill. It was the recovery files. My bak and gs was not there and my project would not open. So i was stuck with recovery. That's where the help files said to rename it. That worked.

I would have lost 1 hour and I did not ever change autobak.
