• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Possible collaboration on a scenery design tool

Hi,

Since I started designing my freeware scenery, the idea of a scenery design tool is running in my head and since I am not a programmer, I thought sharing it in case someone is interested to collaborate on developing it.

Of course I do not want to make money out of it, I share it in case someone would like to make it happen with me for the benefit of the freeware FS scenery design community.

I am personally a professional U.I designer and the screen below is just a 5 minute prototype of what I have in mind, but I can collaborate in my free time on a more detailed and professional U.I if a programmer is interested. Of course I have 0 budget :)

The main objective of the tool is not to place objects one by one as many great tools allow that already, but this tool is ment to use brushes and equivalents to randomize objects to fill large areas in a quick and intuitive way and to create different types of urban spots while Sync with FS and Google Earth position

The user can use default FS Libraries or custom made libraries

• No default or custom urban autogen texture is needed
• No photoreal textures is needed

Few ideas of the tool features:
• Connects directly to FS and can control view panning and rotation
• Connects with Google Earth to sync position with FS so user can duplicate specific urban areas in the world
• Can sync FS with the camera angle of GE…
• “Paint” urban areas in FS in a live mode
• With different “paint” tools, the user can fill large areas with selected library 3D objects to create cities or villages in a random or controlled way (like Whisplacer)
• Use brush or Airbrush to paint or spray selected library objects directly in FS window while
• previewing result live
• When painting objects automatic exclusion of underneath autogen
• In object fill, paint or airbrush mode, automatic detection of objects collision to avoid overlapping buildings…
• In object fill, paint or airbrush mode, automatic detection of roads, railroads, rivers, lakes in FS to avoid placing 3D elements over those…
• Use poly shapes or lines directly traced in FS window to fill a line or poly with selected library objects (like Whisplacer)
• Set the size and density of the brush or airbrush (like paint programs)
• Use the brush over already placed (painted) objects areas to randomize their:
o Scale
o Elevation (Max ground level and can go underground to simulate stories
height)
o Rotation
o Shape distortion
o Etc.
• Multi / area selection to:
o Change selected objects values / settings
o Switch objects with ones from the same or a different library
• Errase objects by setting eraser size and density
• Misc settings like Whisplacer can also come to customize the placement…
• Etc et…

Your feedback is welcome!
Cheers
Michel
