Problem Installing FSX SP1

Hi,

Hopefully someone here can help me. I've got .NET V2.0 installed, and I'm getting this error message when installing the SP. I can't understand what its problem is!!!

I've followed the notes in the MS kb for the error (installing .NET 1.1) but

1) this did not fix the issue

2) why do I need 1.1 when I have 2.0 installed???

I'm going mad here! Been 3 hours trying to figure it out. Hopefully someone here can help me get it installed. FSX is vanilla.

Best regards,
Robin.

Hi,

I've completely removed any trace of .NET Framework, and it is STILL generating this error!

I'm now going to trash my FSX install to see if that fixes it.

Best regards,
Robin.

Versions of dotNET are not cululative. That means that you should have all versions present 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. So if a program is looking for version 1.1 and you do not have it then having version 2.0 present will not help the problem - you need to install version 1.1

AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

I am NOT re-installing Windows!!

There is no version of .NET installed. I can't even re-install FSX!

OK - thanks for the clarification! :)

Hi,

I've re-installed .NET 1.1, SP1 and .NET 2.0 and SP1, restarted for good measure, and FSX is still generating the above error messages when I try to install it.

Best regards,
Robin.

Well, I tried the steps in the kb and still no good. Why is installation such a damn nightmare?!

Best regards,
Robin.

I had to disable Ad-Watch for the SP1 to install properly. Prior to that I was getting the same error.

That is my big problem - I don't have AV or anti-spyware anything installed.

I have:

Windows XP Pro SP2
IE7
FF2
FS2004
FSX
OpenOffice.org 2.0.2
iTunes 7.0.4
Thunderbird 2.0
All the FS2004 add-ons you can name! :D
gMax
FS2004 and FSX SDKs

I've disabled most services that I don't need (and these were disabled before I installed FSX the first time).

I'm going for drastic action here - I'm re-installing Windows. No-one seems to know what HRESULT 80070002 means or how to fix it (including MS).

Best regards,
Robin.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...

I have utterly bog standard UK installs of vista Ultimate and XP (32bit) installs.

They are sitting behind a firewall. Both machines run antivirus (always).

There is nothing 'special' about the installs:

the XP version (desktop) has Cloud nine landclass stuff for USA, SA and europe installed, The vista (laptop) is bog-standard but a couple of 3rd party planes...

Not a hint of an issue of a murmer of a complaint. Both installed without a hitch.

Sorry I cant offer more info to you.

Good luck.

Hmmmm.... no probs.

I did manage to install FSX once, but SP1 wouldn't install, so I uninstalled FSX, and now can't re-install it for the same reason SP1 wouldn't install.

I keep coming back to this mscoree.dll bug that apparently generates this error, but I have already removed any trace of it off the system, so it can't possibly be an issue as it isn't there.

I'm going to have to re-install windows. There is no other solution for it. :(

Best regards,
Robin.

Hi Robin.

Why don't you try a Restore to a point previous to the original FSX install? It would be easier than a complete reinstall of WinXP.

If that works, then you should be able to reinstall FSX, then the SDK, then the FSX SP1, then the SDK SP1a.... without uninstalling anything along the way.
