• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA problem with backed ground poly

So I created a bunch of single yellow line ground polys (gp_PatternedLines_40F) and they look fine (although I am experiencing alignment issues). I decided I wanted to change the lines to backed single yellow (gp_PatternedLines_Backed_40F). I compiled the airport but now all of the lines that I changed to single yellow backed show up as gray lines in FSX.

In the picture below, circle on the left shows single yellow (texture file: gp_PatternedLines_40F) and the backed single yellow (texture file: gp_PatternedLines_Backed_40F). The the single yellow shows up fine, the backed yellow shows as gray. The middle circle is a hold short line using texture file gp_PatternedLines_Backed_40F. The right circle shows how the ground poly isn't aligned with the auto generated centerline. The bottom portion of the picture shows how it looks in ADE (1.78)

There is no gp_PatternedLines_Backed_40F texture file in the default package, so I assume that this texture is not in your FS texture folder and thus is not being displayed. I guess untextured ground poly lines are plain gray.

The normal way to make a line with backing is to choose gp_PatternedLines_40F as a texture, and then select a different backing texture from the Backing Texture list.

That texture was installed with ADE 1.78 and it's one of the options. I did make sure that the texture file was copied to the FSX add-on folder. So, on a hunch, I drew a new ground poly with the gp_PatternedLines_Backed_40F texture, compiled the airport and now the lines are showing up properly. I guess maybe there's a slight glitch when existing ground poly textures are changed. Now all I need to figure out is why the ground poly's aren't aligning properly in FSX with the taxiway centerlines. Anyone got any ideas on that?

Your centerline in ADE (I assume it's a background image) is not aligned with the FSX centerline. Your ground poly line is clearly offset from the center of that taxiway. You can use the connection to draw the ground poly line directly on top of the ADE taxiway line. If you are already doing that then you will have to offset your ground poly lines from the ADE center lines.

You can clearly see in the below screen grab from ADE that the taxiway centerline (yellow), the ground poly (purple) and the background image are all aligned. I have drawn ground polys for a couple of other airports and have not had this problem with the taxiway centerlines and ground polys not aligning. I should also note that ALL of the GPs I have drawn for this airport have this alignment issue, it's almost like there's some kind of global offset or something. I'm attaching the ADE file if anyone wants to have a look.

OK, so I *think* I may have found the problem with the alignment. At one point I accidentally dragged the runway and in moving it back, I used the lat/long I found on the internet...it was accurate, but not as precise as the lat/long that FSX used (I don't know why I didn't think of opening the stock airport to get the right numbers). So now I need to know if there is a way for me to move *everything* at one time instead of dragging every single thing one at a time...

Got it figured out...but accidentally moving the runway has nothing to do with the ground poly alignment. Seems to be something happening during compilation.
