Hi there,
although Photoshop and I are good buddies for a long time now, I still have no clue how to generate good textures for checkered or corrugated knobs. I mean something like this:
Right now I am using the following method:
1. New layer, background white fill
2. Strong Noise filter
3. depending which mapping method I used:
...a) if I use my taper-modifier mode, I add a strong radial-zoom-blur
...b) if I use a normal cylindrical map, I add a strong motion blur filter.
the result of both methods are black and white lines.
4. playing with the blending mode to add the shadows and highlights to the colored layer below.
The result is not too bad - at least it adds some structure to the knob. But the problem is that the lines are positioned very randomly. I have quite a few of these knobs in my cockpit, hence I really need a good method for creating the texture.
What are your suggestions?
