• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Radio comms in missions

I've built only a couple missions, but it really seems like I am cleared to just fly around all I want, in total ignorance of Air Traffic Controllers in my virtual world.

I am trying to come up with a logical way of modelling ATC / radio comms in my missions in a manner where I am not just creating all my own dialogs for the user to sit there and listen to. I want the USER dialing up the freqs and talking to the approach/departure or tower or even ground. So I'm going over this in my head, trying to figure how I can prompt (or even require) the PLAYER to dial up whatever controller he needs to be talking to.

Anybody seen/flown a good quality mission where this was done well?

I guess I don't understand the dilemma....you can interact with ATC in Missions in exactly the same way as Freeflight. Why not just use a dialog action to instruct the player to contact ATC.?

Right I understand that. No point in trying to model what is already there. Instead I guess I am considering building in something that compels the player to interract with the ATC. Like maybe the next POI or chapter of the mission doesn't occur unless the player at least checks in with Boston Approach, etc.

Sure, a simple dialogue works, particularly when you have pilot / co-pilot aircraft and you can build in that interaction.

Hell, maybe I just use SIMVAR and have the ATC contact the Player?

More than one way to skin a cat, I guess. Kinda just looking for ideas.
