• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

P3D v5 Ramp lights not working at arrival airport but work fine at departing airport

Hi. I've added ramp lights from Jim Dhaenens "fsx_lts" library to a number of airports in P3Dv5. When departing from an airport with these lights they work fine. However, when doing a flight and landing at an airport with these lights, they don't work.

Can anyone explain this behavior?

Thanks a lot.

Well, after doing a lot more searching in this forum I finally found a solution.

I made an effect controller file for each of the 2 effects, fx_landing and fx_beaconwhi, used for the ramp light models. I then attached these controller files instead of the effect files to the light models and, oiula!, the lights now work at the arrival airports.

Another solution I found describing changing the particle type to 25 instead of 19 or 28 did not work for this, however, it did fix the issue where the lights disappear at certain viewing angles.

I've found that even controller files can be a pain sometimes... I ended up just using SODE to place them. On the up side, it's really quite easy to place a whole bunch, I can do an International airport in about 20 minutes. I was just fed up with the P3D system, I've started swapping out the dynamic lighting at addon airports the same way, disabling the lights that come with it and making my own.

In FS2004 this was a solution for arriving user aicraft without a controller fx

Edit: I did not use attached effects, but placed the effects in ADE

Adding a controller can sometimes help, but the issue is the amount of dynamic lights P3D can handle. You will eventually run out of coverage, specially if you visit large airports with more dynamic lights and AI traffic that also have dynamic lights.

Is there a hard-set limit to the maximum lights it will spawn? I've set my Max lights in the p3d config to a stupid amount and still have issues with it, curiously, sode has no issue although sometimes I do need to refresh it
