• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

MSFS20 Renaming .gltf and .bin files

Hey!

I’m trying to rename a .gltf & .bin pair for a static model. By just renaming the files, and editing the gltf to point to the newly renamed bin file does not seem to work. Is it even possible?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It should work as per you said

I use the technique to generate new objects at runtime in a script,
I make a 1:1 copy of the source glTF, change the filename and the uri of the .bin and change something in the material properties
About the .bin, they all share the same geometry so i also make a 1:1 copy and rename it

This is where I'm using the technique btw

Yes, this can be do but on the gltf + bin exported from your modeler (3DS ou Blender). For thoses exported after compilation with fspackagetools or the DEV mod is more difficult (blank are suppressed).

a) I make a copy of the gltf + bin with another name
b) With Notepad++, I edit the gtlf and I modify all occurences of bin file in it (generally on the last line of gltf file)
c) I test with MCX to import this new model.

Thank you both. Yes, this is more or less what I do, but no joy. Will have to try something else.
