• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Runway Headings

The discussion in the Hotfix 4 thread about ILS, magnetic variation and how the ILS beam is not aligned with the runway in ADE got me thinking again about the difference between runway headings displayed in MSFS versus ADE. This obviously isn't enough difference to be attributed to magnetic variation, but it is enough to be annoying. Taxipaths from the runway onto a taxiway start at the runway centerline and parallel the centerline a short distance before the taxiway turn-off. The ADE display of the runway and the MSFS generation of the runway do not coincide close enough to use the ADE display as a guide for these paths. Therefore, it is necessary to position an aircraft in the sim on the runway centerline, displayed in ADE, to place a guideline showing the centerline's actual location. ADE accurately displays the runway location (center point) relative to what displays in the sim, but the heading is often not accurate. The discrepancy is usually a few hundredths of a degree. An inaccuracy in how the runways are drawn in the sim, so there is no ADE solution?

I may have missed this since I do not recall it. However are we talking about the heading as defined in the properties or the drawn runway in the display? Is this consistent across different parts of the world or does it vary.

The XML heading and the displayed heading in ADE are the same, but it doesn't agree with what is displayed in the sim. This is not consistent in the area where I am working, which is just the eastern United States and the nearby Caribbean. One of the more extreme cases is at MYNN shown in the attached screenshot where the runway path is drawn along the runway centerline displayed in the sim. Runway 14/32 is way off (0.11 degrees) but runway 09/27 is very near exact. If the XML is correct, then the ADE display is correct because they match. I guess the sim is messed up. Perhaps all that can be done is note this in the ADE instructions.

I've notice this since I started working with MSFS and ADE Alpha 17. Agree with art209 in that it is how the sim renders the object and not anything with the object parameters that are wrong. Just typical Microslop.
