• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Runway turning circle

Hi all,

I am successfully creating a nice gmax runway using Bill Womack's wonderful guide.
I've got a nice looking runway now and am adding the texture layers.
Only thing is, in Bill's tutorial he uses a plane object for the runway which is great for regular runways, but 08/26 at EGTE has a large turning circle at the end.

Can anyone suggest the best way to create the turning circle so that it matches up nicely with the rest of the runway?

Many thanks
Garry

Do you want the textures to match? If so, create an Ngon (for example) in GMAX and snuggle it up next to your runway.

For something like this you'll need to draw another polygon or poly object next to the plane object by drawing a line around the edge and converting to poly, then texture it the same as your runway.

.

Super, thanks gents, thats pretty much what I thought, nice to have it confirmed.
There is no way to join the main runway and the circle together I take it, just leave the polys separate but close together?

Thanks again, I doubt it would be possible for newbies like me to even make any progress in scenery design without the existence of this site and forum.
I sincerely appreciate all the help I have recieved in various topics.

Sitting there looking at my custom runway with layered markings, sitting on top of my high res ground photo poly fills me with pride and happiness. Cannot wait to get cracking with the 3D buildings.

Have your runway as a poly and then go into the object down to Poly level and Create Polygon, then draw your turning circle. It will then be part of the same object. Just remember to draw anticlockwise and it helps to have Vertex Snaps ON.

.

Or create it and then use Attach List to attach the turning circle to the runway. Keep in mind that once they are a single object it will have to use the same texture as the runway if you use a Standard material. You can use a Multi-Material, but that is slightly more complicated, and I don't know if you can do that with a ground polygon.

Thank you all for your great help.

As I had already created the runway as a plane following Bill's tutorial, I just created the circle as a new poly and joined it up to the main runway. Its all fully textured and looking great.

I am very grateful for the advice and info, will certainly come in useful for my next projects.
