• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SBuilder cannot find FS9

I uninstalled FSX on my laptop, which I use for scenery making, as I needed the space. After the uninstall I noticed there was still a folder for FSX in the Microsoft Games folder, and to be tidy I deleted it, without looking at what was in there. This proved to be a blunder on my part. Two days later when I tried to start SBuilder it informed me that FS9 was not installed on the laptop, this despite the fact that FS9 is still installed, works fine, and is still listed in the registry of programmes that can be uninstalled etc etc. I presume there was some sort of link through FSX. I can uninstall FS9 and then reinstall so that SBuilder can detect it, but I am not enthusiastic. Is there some way to point SBuilder in the right direction? Or any other thought?

Hello:

You may wish to do some Google searches to explore this a bit more via the various FS web site forums, and review any existing threads on this at the "official" SBuilder support forums at PTSim ...before doing anything more to your FS and SBuilder installations. :alert:

Un-installing FSX should not have messed with the registry entries for FS9; be sure you only use the provided un-installers for applications, or use Revo Uninstaller. ;)

What exactly was listed (ex: what shortcuts) in the cascaded fly-out Start Menu folder chain for MS Games before you "deleted" it ?

Before doing anything so drastic as un-installing and re-installing FS9, you may wish to try restoring the FS9 Windows Registry entries for FS9 using the Flight1 freeware FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool:

http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library

PS: Be aware of the fact that during installation, SBuilder tries to read the FS9 installation folder chain in order to copy some files its uses during scenery creation when using FS default files; so FS must be installed and its registry entries must be in place before (re-)installing SBuilder. :spushpin:

Hope this helps ! :)

FSX does have a quirk when uninstalling and reinsalling where it removes the FS9 registry entries as well as FSX entries. Not sure why MS never released a patch for this in the SP updates it released before ACES shut its doors.
