• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SBuilder does not retain path for FSX

Every time I open SBuilderX I get an error stating SBuilder cannot find FSX. It then opens a window showing my paths. So I type in the path. And SBuilder opens. Next time I open SBuilder... same thing... every time. Suggestions?

Does FSX-P3D migration tool or P3D have any effect on this? P3D installed but on a separate drive from FSX.

thx,

Clutch

Hello:

Does Windows' login [current user profile name] have "write permission" for the SBuilderX folder in which the SBuilder.ini file is located ?

Try starting the SBuilderX *.exe file via a Windows Explorer right-click menu "Run As Administrator" option to see if it is then allowed to write the path info into the SBuilder.ini file ...and have it saved.

PS: Adding a "Take Ownership" function to the right-click Windows Explorer context menu can help resolve 'write permission' issues:

Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Windows Vista / Win 7: http://www.askvg.com/add-take-ownership-option-in-file-folder-context-menu-in-windows-vista/

PS: Additionally, if by any chance the SBuilderX installation folder chain was written to your NTFS hard drive from a backup image on CD-ROM media, it may have taken on a "Read-Only" attribute; be sure all necessary files in the hard drive's SBuilderX folder chain have had the "Read-Only" attribute removed for proper functionality.

Hope this helps ! :)

Good suggestion Gary... but no go. Gave it full read/write permissions (it was only read before), rebooted - still always asking for path. Doesn't seem to effect performance but just a nag. :(

P.S. - Just tried that Take Ownership. Thx for the link. It does not appear when right-clicking an .exe file but does appear when clicking on other files?

I'm just guessing, but there may be a problem introduced in the windows registry. It may be the path to FSX is taken from the registry.

Good info guys. I did read that thread... same issue. First, they say it is a registry issue, then they say it isn't.

Went to my Migrator tool. With it off, and I do have FSX installed, I get the error message. When I turn Migrator on to point to P3D it works?!?! No error message. Woulda thought it would be the other way around.

So just need to remember to have Migrator ON when using SBuilderX if I don't want to see the error message. So it's either click on Migrator or click on SBuilder. Oh, the agony of having to make an additional click, ha!

Thx,

Hi Clutch:

I was intrigued by this scenario as I've seen numerous mentions of it over the years, but have not had the problem myself.

However, I do recall seeing some solutions posted by Luis Sa'; possibly you are OK with your present work-around, but in the event you and/or others may wish to have more tools in their 'tool-belt' for making SBuilderX properly functional on all Windows OS platforms, here's another thread to consider:

PS: Just found this one too... IIRC, "MSCorFlags" was involved in one of the fixes for SBuilderX 64-bit OS platform use

Hope this helps ! :)
