• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 SBuilder elevations

Hi everyone,

I am starting to work on a big project which is designing a scenery for DXB and SHJ and its surrounding scenery for fs9 and then later fsx. I could start the other way round if someone could convince me :p

I know for a beginner this is a large project which is why I am taking it slow one step at a time .... no rush.

My first objective is to understand terrain designing.
That is draw out the correct land mass and water mass and its appropriate coast lines, islands, rivers and roads.
This is the general idea:

Right now I want to concentrate on the land (elevation), water, and city, and create a flat vacant area to build my airport ground sceneries on.
I understand the best tool to start with is with Terrain SDK for fs2004 and Sbuilder v205.

My problem right now is I have read a lot of tutorials and videos, as a result my mind is all over the place trying to understand the terminologies. I would REALLY appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction on what my first step should be to look at when it comes to drawing out coastlines, and water marks, islands, roads where i can lay photoscenery as well.

(BTW: There is only one thorough video tutorial regarding Sbuilder I could find on youtube which is in english lol)

2) Also I have another objective in mind which i would like to accomplish.
If you take a look at below image you will see a road way to the entrance of terminal building. What is unique about this roadway is that its elevation is below than the elevation of the airport scenery.

My question would be can we have more granular control over land elevations around main airport scenery with the help of Sbuilder ?

3) I understand if I am to make a mesh of the scenery, or get elevations I need raw DEM (digital elevation data) for the landclass (I am not very certain if I need this for the purpose of this scenery - hence my confusion).
I couldn't find an appropriate source where I could find or even purchase DEM for regions in Middle East :S
Does anyone know where else I could find it or do I even need it.

Atleast I could use this source to build mountain mesh later on around Northern Emirates and Oman region.

I would really appreciate any help and thank you for your time for reading my long email :)
