• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

SBuilder Newb - exclude airport base texture ?

Morn'n Folks,

I'm new around here and I've read through some of the SBuilder tutorials I could find... I am working on my first scenery project and I've figured out how to modify some of the landclass files around my project... So - I guess that means I have SBuilder installed properly and it seems to be working... Now I need trim an edge off my base/default grass texture that defines the actual size of the airport... I've figured out how to create Polys matched to the required respective coordinates in FS9... I'm assuming it need to be some type of exclusion area to trim the base airport texture... I selected "Add All" layers but it didn't work...

Any ideas as to how I can perform this task or what I am doing wrong ???

Is there any way to actually see default airport base texture ???

I may need to add real estate in another area - so is the process similiar - and - how do I figure out how to get an exact texture match for the existing base texture ???

Appreciate any help offered...
:)

Regards,
Scott

Hi again...

OK - I figured out it was "Layer 007" for the airport boundary... I did a maximum zoom in FS9 Slew Mode for very precise placement along a thin strip I was trying to trim off... I had "Show Aircraft" turned on in SBuilder... I went to each corner and zoomed in fully in SBuilder... All four corners seemed to be marked perfectly... I compiled my BGL - and - oops - 3/4 of my airport texture vanished... I repeated this process several times from scratch - same result... I can't even see how the huge chunk cut - equates in any manner to the polygon I drew in SBuilder...

I did this as part of my same project with the Landclass mod - should I have kept them separately ??? Any ideas as to why my coordinates don't seem to be matching up ???

File attached if it helps... Just trying to remove a small sliver of airport parallel to the road down South East side of airport- if you have UT loaded... I marked the complete default airport footprint with a yellow poly for reference... The exclude is the dark grey that doesn't seem to be working correctly...

Suggestions ??? Gross conceptual error on my part ???

Regards,
Scott

What you might try is excluding the entire thing, then adding a new one in the trimmed shape you want. That might work.

Hi...

Thanks for responding... Yeah - after hours of trial and error with SBuilder and searching for related posts - I came to the same conclusion... I'll try that when I get some time to mess with it again... I found a post that alluded to the fact that you could only delete big blocks of the default stuff... Which brings me to another question - which items can I exclude with a defined poly and which items get excluded in large blocks ? My next task was that I wanted to snip out a small piece of UT roads going unde a bridge near the airport... I know I can turn it off globally in UT but I prefer it on... I see that it has been done by reading posts - although the posts weren't very explicit...

Is it possible to exclude anything in FS9 with custom poly shapes ???

Scott

Ooops sorry - I meant Ultimate Terrain not Utah...
:)

If you want some great GA Utah scenery - search for Alan Heiner in the file library - he did a bunch of smaller airports - including Ogden - in the area and did an outstanding job on them...
