• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 sbuilder - photoscenery is flat

Hello,

I made a photoscenery with sbuider, it seems it doesn't use the resample, and the scenery displays ok, but is flat, as if there's no mesh there.

I understand that you need it to be flat to have the high resolution images, but I'm creating regular 4.7pixel resolution, not the high-res.

Do I HAVE to compile some sort of mesh as well? If so how do I insert the mesh data into sbuilder?

Kindly,

Blazer

As far as I know SBuilder uses VTP polygons for it's 4.8 meter photo scenery. This should follow the elevation of the mesh.

Anybody have any knowledge on this issue please?

I know some way , but it need you to have global mapper , simply use online data that is build-in feature in global mapper ,save data in geotiff format , and use DeathValley_Elevations in the Resample Examples folder to compile it , and then you'll have mesh with resolution 1M

SBuilder for FS9 can compile a groundpoly type photoreal or a VTP vector photoreal.

You must have chosen the groundpoly type. The VTP type is mesh-clinging at 4.3 meters/pixel, and as you can choose a vtp layer ( 5 works OK ) you can place roads, shorelines etc... over it.

The alpha channel can control blending ( not water ), much like FSX photoreal.

I compile to the Work folder, then manually move the BGL and the textures to their folders.

The VTP custom texture should keep your mesh as-is. Remember the bmps have to go into scenery\world\texture which is a drawback for a large area. I used to use terrabuilder lite and the FS2000 resample for large-area photo-terrain. The ability to use transparency-blend in the VTP bmps is a big advantage over resample IMHO.
