• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SBuilderX

Hi,
When I compile a project from SBuilderX (also ADE), I usually dont have to close FSX nor desactivated the scenery where it goes. But sometimes yes. Why?
Thanks.

Hello:

Although Lance's reply did not include a jovial "Emoticon / Smilie", I believe he was being somewhat comical with his post above. ;)

FYI: Windows, FSX, and/or 3rd party FS utilities may "lock" a file, and this may make it necessary for FSX to be completely re-started so it can then properly read and process information in files created / modified by end users.

Also, depending on what type of FS content is created / edited in SBuilder, FS may need to re-index its scenery-related database(s), and load the new content so that the rendering engine knows about it at startup and can process it accordingly.

In Windows XP we could use "Unlocker" to avoid re-starting FS in "some" situations; but in Windows 7 I have yet to find a similar utility that works properly on that platform, so in the mean time we must re-start FS as you describe.

Hope this helps ! :)

its appose to keep us frum breaken our puters cuz we are dumb people if askin mikrosoff.

now, in smart people speak,
Its to keep us from terminating or changing a file that is in active processing from being changed or modified, which can cause undesired results. Microsoft didnt think people would actually know how to use a computer thus they generated additional headaches for everyone by ensuring things lock out when being processed. This is also similar but not exactly the case with the UAC, which keeps programs etc from modifying for malicious intent, files within the 'green zone'.
Ah Microsoft, if only they would release a multiversion os that has the built in capacity to allow full windows usage, or staged down for more experienced users. Dont know about you, but the gui of windows makes it easy, no strings to remember, only an icon to click; er double click. Dont use it, you lose it ''refering to programming''.

Some of it may be OS related, but other parts FSX related, as the game can control file access.

As an example, I can edit an airport and copy/overwrite that changed file into FSX while it is running, update the Scenery Library and see the changes. But If I have changed the elevation of that airport and there is a stub file that FSX has read, I cannot make another change to elevation and overwrite the stub file while FSX runs.

So that's why the best answer is some times... because!
