Scenery objects available to Missions.....

I'd really like to put the small, general purpose GCDAM scenery object into a Mission. I've installed FSAddon's FSX Mission Editor and it seems to work fine for simple stuff, but I can't find the d*mn dam! I know the object in question is in the FSX\Scenery\Global file - its name comes up in the Texture list and I've placed it previously using InstantScenery - BUT - I can't seem to find it in the drop down list in the Scenery Object list when I edit the Mission in FSXME. Doh!

Any pointers on where the FSX Mission derives its list of objects - and where the file is, so that, just possibly (???) I can add the desired object to the list?

Thanks in advance.....

Cheers - Dai (Wales UK).

Missions use the same libraries as custom scenery. The dam is in the scenery library, you just need to search through it. Don't know the name at the moment, maybe hoover*...

I also have FSXME. I see they have specific dams in there under Global, Generic & Vehicle libraries:

LDM_BlueMesaDam
LDM_CrystalDam
LDM_MorrowDam

You are looking for something more general?

You know, somewhere I had come across an application that actually shows all these objects so you can see what they look like. I'll see if I still have that handy.

Thanks, Guys - I tried each of the 'LDM' dams but they are, I'm afraid, not like the GCDAM as found in the normal FSX 'Global' scenery file - B*gger it!

Like I said, it seems that the Mission 'interpretor' (if that's the right definition), uses a slightly different file set-up. Many of the scenery items are the same - but, the GCDAM isn't there.

I guess I'll just have to place the required scenery object in a seperate 'Addon Scenery' file and load that into FSX rather than try to get the Mission Object Placement to do it. Unless, of course, you can think of another way.....;)

Thanks again - Dai.

I think GCdam stands for Grand Coulee Dam. It may be geographically locked. If you decompile the BGL file, you can give it a new GUID number and use it.

Thanks for your suggestion, Archtx - I tried the bgl decompiler but, unfortunately, the output listing had no 'object names' in it, so I couldn't cross reference the GCDam object.

Anyway, I've used another dam - not perfect, but better than no d*mn dam!! ;)

Thanks, Jeap - like I said, the 'GCDam' is in:

Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\Global

but, apparently, neither the Mission Placement Tool nor FSXME use this file - they use a similar, but smaller, set of objects selected from it and, possibly, stored under a different filename. That's the rub, I'm afraid - I just don't know what the filename is, where it's located or how to get the OPT/FSXME to 'point' to it.

Anyway - onwards and upwards - thanks for your suggestion!
