• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ScenProc crashes at startup

Hi,

I just got the development package and unzipped it into a directory. ScenProc crashes when it tries to start with a NullReferenceException. Perhaps I'm missing a prerequisite? I have FSX and the SDK installed. Can someone help?

Gregg

Hi Greg,

Did you get more details in the error message? That might help me to find out where the crash happens.

Do you not even get to the initial screen?

No. I looked in the Event Log as well. My FSX and FSX SDK are in the default locations so that's not it. I do have UAC turned on (I have to have it on on this machine). I installed your package on my D drive. Does anything else have to be running before I start it? I have 2005, 2008 X64 & x86, 2010 x64 & x86.

Hi,

To run it you would need the .net framework 3.5 and if you will be using shapefiles you need to access database driver as mentioned in the manual.

Besides that you should just be able to unzip the package and run the tool.

Just to double check, you get the error directly after starting and before you can do anything else? It most likely happens during reading of the autogen configuration files I think. But without a little more info (like a stack trace of the error) it might be hard to find.

I get exactly the same problem. When I start ScenProc the windows "ScenPros has stopped working" message appeares. I have installed all the prequisities.
I have Win 8 and 7. The error occurs on both of them.

Has anyone else succesfully ran the program.

Is there anywhere where one can download an older release?

Do you also get the null reference exception that is mentioned in the first post?

You can get old release at the scenerydesign.org website:

http://www.scenerydesign.org/old-releases/

Any additional information about the crash is welcome, as that will help me to find out what goes wrong and fix it.

And just to confirm again, you get this crash directly even before any window appears? When you first start the tool the first window should be one prompting for some settings (fsx path, etc).

t's in the wiki...To be able to read shapefiles, you need to have the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 installed...
May be have something to do, in the wiki is explained how to install

Release development_release_2013-04-28_01-01-02 is the last that worked for me. Releases after that increase by 0.1 MB and the Icon for ScenProc.exe changes.

Correct...before any window shows up, I get the crash.

I tried various versions all the way back to August 1 of last year but they all crashed as well. I tried running it as administrator and in Windows XP SP3 mode as well...no help.

Hi,

Then at least it is not a recent change that I made :)

What I plan to do is add a feature to scenproc like modelconverterx has to report errors directly to me. Then I can see also which function caused the crash. Hopefully that helps in figuring out what goes on here.

Ok. I've subscribed to the thread so that when you get that ready I can run it for you.

Did you enable .net framework 3.5 features under "Turn windows features on or off" ?

If you haven't, try it out with one the older Versions like i did.

Where do you do that?

Go to search in the start menu and type "Turn windows features on or off".

Then look for the .net Framework 3.5 hirachy tab (don't know if you call it that!) and enable everything in it.

Hi,

I have added the error report function no. So if you grab the new release tomorrow it should hopefully give me a better error report where the crash happens. Then I can hopefully fix the issue quickly.

I got it and ran it. It did crash but hopefully it reported something to you.
