• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Selecting Two Backgrounds?

I created a background using a TIF converted to JPEG and entered the two LAT/LON sets. Worked perfectly. Then I created another TIF for the same airport but a close up of the terminal area. Converted to JPEG and entered :AT/LON manually as before. Now I had two backgrounds appearing in the smaller windows. I had previously used only the first background to place the runway to the picture.

Now I selected the small window for the closeup of the terminal area and it appeared in the larger window along with its correct LAT/LON. At this point I assumed that if I hit CLOSE it would appear as the background in place of the one I was using. However, nothing happened. I can find no way to select the second closeup background despite both showing properly in the Background Management window.

I'll have to check some things. But it seems like the close up background is being drawn first and then the larger background is being drawn on top of it, which is why you can't see it.

You could try adjusting the opacity of the background images (via the preferences dialog). Set it to 50% and then you should be able to see both images.

Alternatively you could delete the larger background image. This is more of a pain though if you want to use that background image again.

We have several improvements for the way in which background images are handled slated for future releases.

Yes both images are drawn. It was difficult to see the closeup. However, it may be best to only display the selected picture. Right now both always display despite selecting either one individually. The overlay may be a good option though.

My problem occured when I added two background images (became composite). I selected the runway and the values looked ok in the runway window but they were in meters so I selected feet for the length. The value in feet should have been 2604 but it now shows 8542ft and the runway, in the visual section, extended to that length.

The altitude is at 362.102M. It jumped to 3895ft instead of 1187.999ft when selecting feet.

Same airport with no background has none of the above problems (challenges).

Russell,

Perhaps FSXPlanner could determine a priority order for images based on resolution / area.

The assumption being that higher pixels / m squared has more detail and should be laid on top ?

... just a thought (not sure how hard that is!)

Thanks for all the good work.

Interesting idea! We'll have to look into that to see if it works well.
