• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Shaping the project to the real-world land location

I was wondering, is there a way to overlay my project over the real-world location on Google Earth to "shape" the project to fit the land where it is located? I don't plan on doing this any time soon, but eventually after I have everything in place, I would like to shape things to the actual world location land. I would just like to see exactly what kind of area the whole project covers. This is just for my information and curiosity.

Hi Tom:

Open the ESRI *.SHP files output by CvxExtractor into Google Earth.

PS: I found a way to export some of the airport infrastructure objects from ADE, so an even more complete version of the objects can also be used in SBuilderX and Sketchup as well as in Google Earth.

More on this Thursday. 😀

I seem to be having an issue with SBX. It was working fine changing the water textures by putting a water poly over the area I want it. It worked great the first time, but when I went in and added another body of water and changed it the same way, when I compile the BGL, it flashes some writing quickly on the screen then ends. But when I go over the changed area, nothing has changed. I don't know if I'm getting some sort of error message or what, it goes so fast I can't pause it or even attempt to read what it says. Does SBX log errors where I can pull them up? It's funny how it worked the first time, but don't work at all now.

Depending on what occurred when SBuilderX attempted to compile, an ERROR_REPORT.TXT file may have been written into:

[SBuilderX_install_path]\Tools\Work sub-folder

Check that same folder for (1) or more new CVX vector BGL

NOTE: SBuilderX like many- but not all- GIS apps, separates Lines and Polys into discrete output files

Also, immediately after seeing such a message on screen, and before attempting another compilation of CVX vector content:

...Check this folder for (1) or more new ESRI *.SHP files:

[SBuilderX_install_path]\Tools\Shapes sub-folder

FYI: SBuilderX may pop up messages if:

* We have not selected content in the SBuilderX workspace so that Green vertices and/or object boundaries are seen

* We have selected a mix of both CVX vector Lines and Polys in the SBuilderX workspace to be compiled at the same time

CAVEAT: If you already attempted another compilation of CVX vector content, the prior set of ESRI *.SHP files are over-written. :alert:

Be aware that ADE does this also, and if a project contains CVX vector content, a BGL compile will delete the prior 'work' *.SHP file set.
