• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

(SOLVED!) Flabbergasted! (VC clickspots)

I really don't understand how this can happen ...

I have converted the old freeware Virtavia FS9 F-4 to FSX with ModelconverterX, using the FSX SDK (making separate external and internal models, lots of animation cleanup etc.).

None of my MouseRects work in FSX; however, they all work fine in P3dV4 (64bit). This is a mystery to me, as I have used the FSX SDK (and "modeldef.xml") exclusively.

I have attached one of the internal models (with the textures used) to this post, in the hope that somebody can help me figure out why this happens.

Cheers,
JP

When you make the conversion, make sure that in MCX the Options/ObjectModel Settings/RemoveScaling is set to TRUE. Otherwise any scaling in the VC can cause this problem in FSX. Perhaps that has been fixed in P3D, I don't know.

I just checked my MCX settings, and I made the conversion with Remove Scaling = False!

Thank you very much Tom, going to try with Remove Scaling True, and will report back if that makes the difference.

Just converted "cockpit1" (the one I attached above) with remove scaling, now the clickspots work in both FSX and P3D!

Live and learn ...

Now I'm totally happy with the model, once again thanks for your insight Tom.

Bill Leaming gave us that advice long ago (about scaling and VC clickspots in general), I just adapted it to MCX when I made my conversions. Glad to help. :)

Maybe I should change the default value of that setting to true, I didn't know it had that much impact :D

Remove scaling had the added benefit of making the model dimensions correct as well - before, I had to run MDL tweaker to correct them, they were about 100 times too big.

I don't know Arno, maybe some other times the scaling can be beneficial? :)

When I first implemented the scaling it had some bugs, so that's why it was off by default. But since it seems stable now, I'll turn it on by default in a next development release.

Hi Arno,

Yes, conversion of VCs to FSX is impossible without it, and it makes the conversion so much more convenient because you don't have to use Model Tweaker to fix the dimensions. It also helps fix the attachpoints - they always have axes in MCX and thus can be used for taxi and landing lights that shine on the ground.
