• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some ideas for the FS community

I've got a few ideas I'd like to throw out there...

1. FS Open Source

I've been thinking for a while about how many times in the FS community the wheel is literally being re-invented. It led me to think about setting up a website where standard items like aircraft and car tyre sizes/types that are ready to be used in a GMAX project can be downloaded. That way regular objects that are used every in many aircraft and scnery designs can be readily usable by all... It would be a place where freeware and payware can come together and collect any open source objects they need for their projects... It would also help lead to a level of uniformity in design...

One of my pet peeves is: Designer A made Cessna 152 "Tyre A" different to Designer B's PA-38 Tomahawk "Tyre A"...

An open source community would help the advancement of FS by helping reduce design time, and help speed up the development of new FS technologies, designs and techniques for all of us to benefit from...

2. Object Library Online Searchable Database

You know what would be cool, I just thought of this before... A website datebase that you can call up the GUID, Object, BGL Library Data, etc etc etc on a web query at a website and see a preview for that object... Don't know what GUID asjkkbhvisovsdocno looks like? Do a search on the online database and see what the object looks like, if it's region locked and which BGL it resides in if someone wants to free it for their own personal use...

This would also be something helpful in the FS Open Source community. We could develop new Object Libraries and have designers add their GUID #'s to the database and that way we can confirm a GUID doesn't get used twice if per chance some strange reason it might happen... This will ensure GUID's will remain unique by having a system in place, like an FS standards committee... This would be something FS developers in btoh categories would be encouraged to follow...

Hi,

Nice ideas, here are some comments I have.

1. FS Open source

The object market I added to this forum was a sort of an attempt to collect generic objects for use by other designers. But don't you think the current FS libraries (like AvSim or FlightSim) could be used for this sharing of objects?

2. Library Object database

I have thought about this before. There are already some files you can download that provide such an overview and for finding the correct default object that is enough I think. An online version would be cool, but it would only work if every designer that releases sceneries would register his objects. As it is almost impossible to force them to do so, I doubt a system like this would work (unless FS would require it or so :)).
