• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Sounds in FS9 Sceneries

I've been creating two versions of the same scenery, one for FSX and the other for FS9. The FSX version is all singing all dancing with animations and sounds but try as I may I just cannot get background sounds into the FS9 version. I've got the wav files in the main sound folder, the fx files and a controller in the effects folder and my scenery xml file compiles fine with BglComp.

I've obviously missed something but I'm danged if I know what. Can anyone help me out with any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any ideas. Copies of simple files that are KNOWN to work that I can compare mine to would be very useful ;)

I may well be mistaken (I often am!), but I don't believe that FS9 .fx files support sound attachments...

Bill, I think you're right. I've been sniffing round this problem for a little while now. I think that there are several 'hard coded' sounds in FS9 and each one has been given a number. You can call those up in your effects file (eg the cackling hens in the barnstormer barn) but you can't add your own the way you can in FSX.

Like you, I may be wrong but that's how it seems to me to be at the moment.

I'm dissapointed.

Is it really not possible to add own wav file and play it? Is it not possible to create an effect which is playing a wav file which is defined by the parameter?

For FSX, yes.

For FS9, no. If it were as "easy" as some would wish it to be, there'd have been no market at all for the environmental sounds addon program that was released many years ago when FS9 was still "new and fresh..."

Is there a tutorial on hows this is done in FSX or not, would be pretty sweet to import some sounds into my freeware projects.

Hello:

This might be informative until Joe Watson finishes the FSX Sound WIKI (I thought it was posted already, but couldn't find it on a brief search today).

PS: Scruffyduck's ADE may be able to place FSX sounds sometime soon! ;)

Hope this helps! :)
