• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

LOl... ok I have placed a light in the light standard that is placed in the FSX scene and looks good but it does not cast light and shaows as in the diagram all that is showing in FSX is a globe of light. I noticed in GMAX in "create" the "light" menu a "target spot" is available that cast the light effect I am after. I placed it in the MDL and BGL but the effect of light cast does not show in the scene. Do you need separate models for day night?

You need texture baking. You have to use 3dsmax. The light you find in either 3dsmax and Gmax does not get export to Flight Sim. It has no build in function in the game to have light shading the same way you have in 3ds/Gmax.

You need to paint the texture to resemble the effect you have.
Or need to do texture baking in 3dsmax to have the light effect.

If you have created the floor texture, then making a light splash as part of the texture is probably the best way to handle this.

If not, you can create a "light splash" circle (or cone) on the ground with GMAX and texture it using a bright texture, with transparency to make it look like a circle of light. This has the problem of sharp edges on the circle.

Finally, you can use the landing light effect as part of a scenery object, which will project a cone of light on the ground, just as aircraft do. You must do some asm tweaking, which MDLTweaker can do if for FS9. A method for this is here:

Sidney's original PDF tutorial is available on page one of that forum thread.

Hope this helps,
